3:32 PM: LS_Bill: hi dan, there is a problem with WPR indicator that is fixed for 5.3 final
3:32 PM: LS_Bill: the problem had to do with some "efficiency" enhancements in 5.3 beta
3:32 PM: Mike: Hello Derek. Welcome to #Linnsoft. :)
3:32 PM: Neal: Hello all
3:32 PM: Mike: hi Neal
3:33 PM: hayden1: Here's a question for today: anybody have a favorite short term (3minute - 15 minute) leading indicator?
3:33 PM: DanR: OSX beta 5.3.2 is looking good otherwise.
3:33 PM: Mike: Bill can all TI's be made more efficient in 5.3final you think?
3:33 PM: LS_Bill: hope everyone had a nice Christmas holiday
3:33 PM: Mike: Hayden try CCI
3:33 PM: Mike: yes Bill thanks hope you all had a good holiday also!
3:33 PM: LS_Bill: the enhancements in 5.3 generally improved all indicators, so yes
3:34 PM: LS_Bill: but there is always room for further improvement
3:34 PM: DanR: Bill, I set up the scan to alert me of data drops. I have it look every 15 seconds. It worked great today.
3:34 PM: Mike: great on further improvement, hopefully TI's can recal on current bar only
3:34 PM: Mike: 5.3 final eta?
3:34 PM: hayden1: Thanks Mike. CCI will get checked out
3:34 PM: LS_Bill: essentially, we now trim down the bars fed into techind calculations, so we pass in only the exact number of bars needed for the calculation
3:35 PM: LS_Bill: so if you have 1000 bars in a chart, but I/RT is updating the last bar tick by tick, a 20 period ma, the calculation is being given only the last 20 bars
3:35 PM: Mike: Hello Eric. Welcome to #Linnsoft. :)
3:36 PM: LS_Bill: it knows nothing of the other 980 bars in the chart, so the calculation is much more efficient than before
3:36 PM: Mike: ok I suggest have chart with say 200 bars then recalc on
current bar only then store in multi dimension array hold the other calculated
data vales for TI's in it
3:37 PM: LS_Bill: 5.3 will be made a final release the week of Jan 6th, perhaps 1/9/2002
3:37 PM: Mike: actually besides current bars chart is just a static bitmap!
3:37 PM: DanR: Is there a way when using a scan, for it to hit a series of key stroke at the alert point instead of an alert sound?
3:38 PM: LS_Bill: not at this time.
3:38 PM: DanR: I'd like it to simply hit "apple" G, which would restart the data feed.
3:38 PM: LS_Bill: however the new custom column does have the ability to launch a schedule
3:38 PM: LS_Bill: when some scan condition is true
3:39 PM: Mike: Dan have to use Quick key maybe can do that!
3:39 PM: LS_Bill: a scan can be a series of actions
3:39 PM: DanR: could you explain, or point me in the direction of explanation?
3:40 PM: LS_Bill: a scan embedded in a quote page as a custom column is very much like running a scan on that quote page
3:40 PM: Mike: Schedules can perform many tasks with one call to schedule
3:42 PM: LS_Bill: when the scan condition is true for some row in the quote page, the custom column can run a schedule, open a chart, make a sound or make the cell light up in a special way, or all of the above
3:42 PM: Mike: what you need to be done Dan? when something triggers?
3:43 PM: Mike: Hello Bijan. Welcome to #Linnsoft. :)
3:43 PM: Mike: HI Jerry
3:44 PM: DanR: My scan looks at the age of the QQQ ticks every 15 seconds. If it sees it's beyond that, it triggers a screen and a sound.
3:44 PM: LS_Bill: hi bijan
3:44 PM: Mike: Questions folks? ask away...
3:44 PM: Jerry: Hi Mike
3:44 PM: Bijan: Hi Bill
3:44 PM: LS_Bill: what was the problem with the chart delay?
3:44 PM: DanR: I want the program to automatically just restart the feed. Can it do that?
3:45 PM: Neal: Mike how about the refresh problem I have been having?
3:45 PM: Mike: yes START DATA is a action in schedule
3:45 PM: LS_Bill: yes, danR, a schedule can start the feed
3:45 PM: Mike: Neal just IRT user here Bill can assist you maybe
3:46 PM: DanR: Just as it is, the scan thing for the data feed is very very helpful. With me down here and seeing the alert it got me back up within 45 seconds.
3:46 PM: Neal: k
3:46 PM: Bijan: Mea Culpa, mea maxima culpa. When I reverted to the 5.21 I forgot to reinstall the new cc.dll. I did reinstall your dll but not the new cc.dll. Very stupid. Sorry to have wasted your time
3:46 PM: Mike: oh Neal regarding your post chart then changes at dl?
3:46 PM: Neal: Yes
3:46 PM: Neal: Candles different after download
3:46 PM: LS_Bill: Bijan, should all of our quote.com users be using this 12/172001 cc.dll?
3:47 PM: Mike: ok Let Bill answer that chart/data issue Neal
3:47 PM: Neal: Yes
3:47 PM: LS_Bill: Neal are you using quote.com?
3:47 PM: Neal: and InterQuote
3:47 PM: Neal: happens on both
3:48 PM: Bijan: I think so. The one that I have is dated 12/14, but I believe the same one was released later to the
QCharts Yahoo site users. It is technically still a beta, but I have it running in several applications and they all run much better
3:48 PM: Jerry: can you put the new cc.dll with the next version Bill??
3:48 PM: LS_Bill: Neal, I looked at your email and screen shots. This will take some time to research to see what is happening.
3:49 PM: Mike: if the new CC.dll is better maybe they need to make announcement or I can put it on my web site for all to get and use if you all desire
3:49 PM: LS_Bill: Does it happen on particular instruments or on everything, stocks, indexes, futures?
3:49 PM: Neal: yep, let me know what you come up with
3:49 PM: Neal: everything
3:49 PM: Neal: candles change from last download
3:49 PM: LS_Bill: just the last candle?
3:49 PM: Neal: volume & indicators also
3:49 PM: Neal: no all candles from the time of the last download
3:50 PM: Neal: if i download at 11:00
3:50 PM: LS_Bill: so the shape of the price line is similar, but the precise candles are different?
3:50 PM: Neal: exactly
3:50 PM: Neal: so different that one will change from an up to a down candle
3:50 PM: Neal: or many
3:51 PM: Neal: but all change
3:51 PM: Mike: does IRT use for times for candles Bill same when dl'ed data?
3:51 PM: Mike: that my guess
3:51 PM: Bijan: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/qcharts/files/ContinuumClient.dll/LATEST-%20with%20DLL%202001.12.14/
3:51 PM: Mike: his clock and IRT db time, vs time of data in dl my wild guess
3:51 PM: Bijan: this is the site to get it from
3:51 PM: LS_Bill: I/RT timestamps bars with the ending time of the bar
3:51 PM: Neal: also when I talked to you the other day you indicated
3:52 PM: Neal: that when I run Verify Historical Data
3:52 PM: Neal: it should not find any or many errors
3:52 PM: Neal: but it always finds some
3:52 PM: Neal: do not know if related but possible
3:53 PM: LS_Bill: yes, that is unusual, normally such errors are time related, e.g. if you set your clock back in time even a few seconds
3:53 PM: LS_Bill: it will cause ticks to come in with any earlier time than ticks already recorded.
3:53 PM: Neal: I can run Verify and then do a download
3:53 PM: Neal: and then run Verify again and it will have errors
3:54 PM: Mike: Neal those are minor erros I believe I get them also I believe let me try now
3:54 PM: LS_Bill: This will take some time to check out. I can collect data for awhile, export the bars, then download, export again and compare
3:54 PM: LS_Bill: and see what the differences are.
3:54 PM: Neal: yes
3:55 PM: Neal: Of course it is easy to do a screen shot and compare
3:55 PM: Mike: bill should use same cc.dll maybe
3:55 PM: Neal: another user mentioned he is having the same problem
3:55 PM: Neal: Don't know Mike
3:55 PM: Neal: I am using the beta from Quote
3:55 PM: Mike: yeah ok
3:55 PM: DanR: Bill, a schedule can restart the feed? After being triggered from a scan? How?
3:55 PM: Mike: other questions/issues folks?
3:55 PM: Neal: But have the same prob with InterQuote
3:56 PM: Mike: that weird Neal
3:56 PM: Mike: Neal you switch feeds on same db?
3:56 PM: Bijan: Any news on fixing the Pivot points for the eminis. Daily is wrong.
3:56 PM: Neal: Yep
3:56 PM: Neal: Mike
3:56 PM: Neal: sorry no I do not use same DB
3:58 PM: LS_Bill: chad will respond to you on that Bijan. In 5.3 there are some improvements, but he has the details
3:58 PM: LS_Bill: Chad is out today
3:58 PM: Bijan: Thanks
3:59 PM: Bijan: Is 5.3 stable enough now to download or there are still issues to fix
3:59 PM: LS_Bill: we have had good feedback re 5.3, more stable for those having periodic crashes under 5.2
3:59 PM: LS_Bill: any 5.3 users here?
3:59 PM: Neal: Yes
3:59 PM: DanR: yes
4:00 PM: Neal: It has been much more stable for me
4:00 PM: LS_Bill: any stability issues?
4:00 PM: Bijan: any problems with indicators, or other calculations? That was my problem.
4:00 PM: Neal: Not for me Bijan
4:01 PM: Bijan: tks
4:01 PM: Neal: Yep
4:01 PM: LS_Bill: bijan, you found a number of flaws in the RTL that were fixed in 5.3. thanks for that.
4:02 PM: Bijan: you are welcome.
4:02 PM: Neal: got to go, nite all
4:02 PM: LS_Bill: e.g. MAX (MA(RSI), 20) and similar
4:03 PM: LS_Bill: applying technicals to other intermediate calculations.
4:03 PM: LS_Bill: there was even a case where the indicator would calc ok but would disappear on the first tick
4:03 PM: Mike: BARs problem fixed also
4:03 PM: LS_Bill: that was fixed
4:03 PM: Bijan: What is the best way to make a continuous futures chart out of the NAZ emini, making sure that it turns over on the correct date?
4:04 PM: LS_Bill: add ticker NQ* as a future
4:04 PM: LS_Bill: set the "CUSIP" data column of NQ02H to read "NQ*"
4:04 PM: DanR: Bill, is the way you are making the TI charts more efficient going to affect in any way the calculations and thus, the chart display from previous versions of IRT?
4:05 PM: LS_Bill: this "links" the quotes coming in for NQ02H to NQ*
4:05 PM: LS_Bill: on the rollover date, remove the NQ* from H and put NQ* into the CUSIP of the next front month contract
4:05 PM: LS_Bill: using CUSIP is obscure, I know.
4:06 PM: LS_Bill: this was just an unused field for futures so we used to to hold the link to the perpetual
4:06 PM: LS_Bill: used it to hold
4:06 PM: Bijan: Is there a way to add the old NQ01Z data to the NQ* or will it pick it up on its own?
4:07 PM: LS_Bill: you can use File: Export to create a text file of bar data for NQ01Z then edit the file changing NQ01Z everywhere to NQ*
4:07 PM: LS_Bill: then use File: Import to read the revised text file in
4:07 PM: LS_Bill: the data will then be available historically under NQ* also
4:08 PM: Bijan: Boy, I better keep this chat session until I can figure all this out :-)
4:08 PM: LS_Bill: this is pretty easy to do in MS Word
4:08 PM: DanR: just a thank you...the fix for the QQQ option generator worked great this week. Very quick.
4:08 PM: LS_Bill: just open the export file and do a global search and replace to change the ticker.
4:09 PM: LS_Bill: another method is to open the export file for NQ01Z in Excel and REMOVE the ticker completely, save the file with a ticker
4:09 PM: Bijan: I know how to do that. It is the step by step. Remember that I am just starting with I/RT.
4:09 PM: LS_Bill: then when you import, I/RT will ask you which ticker to put the data into, reply NQ*
4:10 PM: LS_Bill: It would be nice to have a "transfer historical data" feature in I/RT so you can just say "transfer data from NQ01Z to NQ*"
4:10 PM: Mike: I plan to make ES* and NQ* intraday data for long time frames
4:11 PM: LS_Bill: and the import/export stuff was done for you under the covers
4:11 PM: Mike: But i need to get as much of intraday say 1 min ES and NQ data as I can
4:11 PM: Bijan: I am looking at the export. It wants to know the time frames. Will it export all the ticks, or only the time frame specified?
4:11 PM: Mike: that good idea Bill also!
4:12 PM: Mike: bijan what is smallest intraday historical data you look at ? 1 min 3 or 5 min past data?
4:12 PM: Bijan: 1 minute
4:12 PM: LS_Bill: I have some family plans for this evening so I have to go at 5:30, any final questions, we have a few more minutes
4:12 PM: Mike: ok right me also
4:12 PM: DanR: Mike or Bill, how do I get a schedule to restart the feed, triggered from a scan that's true?
4:12 PM: Bijan: Thanks for everything.
4:13 PM: Mike: I will make NQ* and ES * 1 min historical data best i can or try to get the data then make files for you to easily import!
4:13 PM: LS_Bill: the only way to trigger a schedule is using a custom column in a quote page
4:13 PM: LS_Bill: running a scan by itself cannot trigger a schedule
4:13 PM: Bijan: Thanks
4:13 PM: Mike: yes Bijan
4:13 PM: LS_Bill: create a custom column that references your scan
4:13 PM: Mike: good Chat I will email log to Chad
4:13 PM: LS_Bill: add the custom column to the quote page you want scanned
4:14 PM: LS_Bill: the custom col will have a rule that says "if true" then run schedule so and so
4:14 PM: DanR: ok I'll see if I can do it.
4:14 PM: Mike: Dan if need help ask on maillist also good idea
4:14 PM: LS_Bill: I think this will work to restart the feed, just setup the quote page with only one symbol in it, QQQ right?
4:15 PM: Mike: maybe someday IRT can watch feed and if it stops it auto try to reconnect!
4:15 PM: LS_Bill: we do now, mike, but not quickly enough for dan's purposes.
4:15 PM: Mike: oh ok
4:16 PM: Mike: thought you did now
4:16 PM: DanR: mike, it's pretty close right now. O
4:16 PM: DanR: one question...where does the command come from in schedules to start feed?
4:16 PM: LS_Bill: eventually, I hope we can make the Mac version less susceptible to dropped connections than it is now.
4:17 PM: Mike: it called START DATA
4:17 PM: DanR: do you type that in..and where?
4:17 PM: LS_Bill: this appears to be mac problem only, and we plan to do some work in the OS X version to make the connection multi-threaded like it is on our windows version
4:17 PM: Mike: in the Action popup menu Dan
4:18 PM: LS_Bill: this will hopefully eliminate dropped connections when the feed is really busy
4:18 PM: Mike: great chat folks thanks Bill appreciate everything
4:18 PM: DanR: thanks. And Bill, I'm not discounting your future work on the OSX version, I'm just seeing this restart thing as a temp fix.
4:18 PM: LS_Bill: Setup: Schedule
4:28 PM: LS_Bill: then press F1 for details on creating schedules
4:28 PM: DanR: ok
4:29 PM: Mike: email list folks great feedback and info and help there also
4:29 PM: Mike: have a great night :)
4:29 PM: DanR: see ya
4:29 PM: Mike_Away: Chad will post chat log tomorrow or when he returns
4:29 PM: Mike_Away: good questions and issues also thanks
4:30 PM: Mike_Away: Bill on chart/data cc.dll issues maybe keep mailist posted if other person having chart problem also I saw
4:30 PM: Mike_Away: thanks
4:30 PM: Bijan: All. Have a Happy New Year. Ciao!
4:31 PM: LS_Bill: Happy New Year everyone...
