4:35 pm:--X-- Welcome - Investor/RT: Powerful Market Analysis Software for Traders and Investors for Windows and Macintosh. Visit the Linn Software web site at http://www.linnsoft.com for product info, tour, demo. Chat with the developers every Tuesday at 4:30 pm ET.
4:35 pm:<LS_Chad> read through all the Q&A's on this page, if you haven't already: http://www.linnsoft.com/qa/rtl.htm
4:35 pm:<LS_Bill> hello everyone
4:36 pm:<LS_Bill> it's open line Tuesday
4:36 pm:<LS_Bill> any questions
4:36 pm:<Gayle> hi bill
4:36 pm:<Gayle> i had another question
4:36 pm:<Gayle> using Profile indicator on a 3 min chart and 30 min chart gives slightly different VA and POC
4:36 pm:<LS_Chad> sure
4:37 pm:<Gayle> also the VA and POC on TPO charts are slightly diff from the 30 min PROF VA
4:37 pm:<Gayle> why is that?
4:37 pm:<LS_Chad> basically...it's using 3-minutes per letter with 3-min chart, and 30-min per letter with 30-min chart
4:37 pm:<Gayle> why wouldn't they all be consistent
4:37 pm:<LS_Chad> 30-min is what you want in order to match up with tpo charts...
4:37 pm:<LS_Chad> however, it's been bugging me laterly that the profile indicator and tpo charts weren't always matching up...
4:37 pm:<Gayle> but the 30 min chart does not match the TPO chart
4:38 pm:<LS_Chad> reworked the code in profile indicator...now the two should be right in synch...assuming prof indicator is on a 30-min chart
4:38 pm:<Gayle> and the 3 min should be about the same except for maybe the last 15 min
4:38 pm:<Gayle> would that make the difference
4:38 pm:<LS_Chad> 3-min chart is equivalent of a tpo chart with 3-min per letter
4:38 pm:<LS_Chad> will make quite a difference
4:38 pm:<Gayle> ah when did you rework the code? which version? a new release coming out soon?
4:39 pm:<LS_Chad> beta 17....
4:39 pm:<LS_Chad> be available
4:40 pm:<Gayle> ok
4:40 pm:<LS_Chad> shortly
4:40 pm:<LS_Chad> http://www.linnsoft.com/dl/win/beta/
4:40 pm:<LS_Chad> check that folder....should be there soon
4:40 pm:<LS_Chad> Gayle...you still on 8.2.3?
4:40 pm:<Gayle> so if I want to use the 30 min PROF VA on a 3 min chart is that possible to do? for example putting the values from the 30 min PROF on the 3 min chart
4:41 pm:<LS_Chad> well....you could do it via an MPD
4:41 pm:<LS_Chad> but not nearly as clean
4:41 pm:<LS_Chad> I've been meaning to refine the Prof so you can use it on 1-min, 3-min, etc chart...but have it load 30-min per letter
4:41 pm:<Gayle> can you set a price as a variable to base a signal on?
4:41 pm:<LS_Chad> will try to get to that soon
4:42 pm:<LS_Chad> as V# variable?
4:42 pm:<Gayle> for example like a horizontal line so that you could put the UVA and LVA on the line and do a signal off when the price touches that line etc
4:42 pm:<Gayle> that would be great
4:43 pm:<Gayle> seems like a lot more interest in the TPO charts
4:43 pm:<Gayle> would be nice if the price crosshairs worked on the TPO charts
4:43 pm:<LS_Chad> yea, have you seen any of the new stuff in 8.3.0?
4:43 pm:<LS_Chad> hit the tab key to turn on the info box...then you get somewhat of a crosshair
4:44 pm:<LS_Chad> but, that is improved in 8.3.0 beta 17 also
4:44 pm:<Gayle> is the Value area indicator an older less sophisitcated version of the PROF indicator?
4:44 pm:<Gayle> yes the TPO charts are really good now
4:44 pm:<fcat> LSBill available?
4:44 pm:<LS_Chad> lot's of changes to the TPO charts in 8.3, and Vol Prof charts have taken on a life of their own
4:45 pm:<LS_Chad> yea...you could say that
4:45 pm:<LS_Bill> I'm here
4:45 pm:<fcat> Hi Bill
4:45 pm:<LS_Chad> actually..it uses a more sophisticated algorithm to calc the value areas
4:45 pm:<LS_Chad> http://www.linnsoft.com/tour/techind/va.htm
4:45 pm:<LS_Chad> but it's not volume or tpo based...like the prof indicator is
4:46 pm:<fcat> wiped out All data over weekend
4:46 pm:<fcat> figured end of month a good time to clean house
4:46 pm:<LS_Bill> on purpose I hope ;-)
4:46 pm:<Gayle> yes i looked at that page
4:46 pm:<LS_Bill> Initialize Intraday database ?
4:46 pm:<fcat> intraday, indexes, eminis, daily,weekly, monthly...everything
4:46 pm:<LS_Bill> clean slate then
4:47 pm:<fcat> y
4:47 pm:<Gayle> is there any place on the IRT site that would give an idea of how to create a signal for a double top of the first hour high?
4:47 pm:<fcat> downloaded fresh historical
4:47 pm:<fcat> aacked up and shut down
4:47 pm:<fcat> *backed up
4:48 pm:<fcat> mon am open all is well
4:48 pm:<LS_Chad> double-top within first hour?
4:48 pm:<LS_Chad> at the high?
4:48 pm:<fcat> today open...disappearing 1m chart data returns
4:49 pm:<Gayle> not necessarily but looking for a double top of the first hour high say by 1 pm
4:49 pm:<fcat> on all 1m charts
4:49 pm:<LS_Bill> random / or have you figured out how to make it happen
4:49 pm:<Gayle> or 1300
4:49 pm:<fcat> exactly what happened last time
4:49 pm:<fcat> everything was fine for one day
4:49 pm:<LS_Chad> so after first hour is complete...alert you when price goes back to that high?
4:49 pm:<LS_Chad> if before 1pm
4:50 pm:<Gayle> yes
4:50 pm:<LS_Chad> use POS to get your time frame...set it up as "Minutes from start of session"
4:50 pm:<fcat> will happen every day now right after open
4:51 pm:<fcat> on all 1m charts
4:51 pm:<LS_Chad> POS >= 60 AND POS <= 210
4:51 pm:<fcat> 9 1m charts
4:51 pm:<fcat> same on all
4:51 pm:<fcat> if I delete intraday data
4:51 pm:<LS_Chad> use SESST to get the high of first hour (setup as "Max high of first 60minutes of session"
4:51 pm:<fcat> it will be fine for one open
4:51 pm:<fcat> then return next day
4:52 pm:<LS_Chad> setup another signal for POS = 60 (to tell you where the bar at end of first hour is)
4:52 pm:<fcat> or last time I returned to 8.2.3 and all was fine
4:52 pm:<LS_Chad> and use Signal Statistics to get "highest close since signal"
4:53 pm:<fcat> but don't know how to tell you to duplicate on your end
4:53 pm:<LS_Chad> POS >= 60 AND POS <= 120 AND CL >= SESST AND CL = SSTAT
4:55 pm:<Gayle> what if i want close to be either .5 above or below SSTAT?
4:55 pm:<Gayle> it seems like writing these signals is very complicated
4:56 pm:<Gayle> wonder if there is any where that walks you through diff scenerios so you can learn how to think like the signals to be able to write them more easily
4:56 pm:<LS_Bill> fcat, there is a folder named tickdata inside the investrt folder
4:56 pm:<fcat> k
4:57 pm:<LS_Bill> this holds ticks collected during the day; the ticks are merged into the database after the close
4:57 pm:<fcat> ok
4:57 pm:<LS_Bill> this folder is supposed to start "empty" each day
4:57 pm:<LS_Chad> CL >= SESST + 0.50
4:58 pm:<LS_Bill> before the open tomorrow, check that folder to see if there are any files in there
4:58 pm:<fcat> when is it supposed to "empty"
4:58 pm:<LS_Bill> if these files are not being cleaned up each day, this may explain the wierd behavior you are seeing
4:59 pm:<LS_Bill> the files are deleted when the "post history" process is performed for the session
4:59 pm:<Gayle> so would you need CLv>+SESST + 0.50 OR CL < SESST - 0.50
5 pm:<LS_Chad> you would need a seperate SESST to look for it breaking the low
5 pm:<fcat> ok I posted already today bot there are 12 or so files in that folder
5 pm:<LS_Chad> SESST_LO
5 pm:<Gayle> no i mean you could get a higher high or a lower high for a double top
5 pm:<LS_Bill> the file names should contain the session number
5 pm:<Gayle> so you would need to look for the high being just below the first hour high or just above the first hour high
5:01 pm:<LS_Chad> SESST will be giving you the high of first hour there...
5:01 pm:<LS_Bill> so what was left behind?
5:01 pm:<fcat> although they are instruments that I haven't traded recently
5:01 pm:<LS_Chad> (CL >= SESST - 0.50 AND CL <= SESST + 0.50) will look for it being within $1 of that high
5:01 pm:<Gayle> you see what i mean?
5:01 pm:<LS_Bill> ok, if the files are dated earlier than today, you may delete them
5:01 pm:<Gayle> ok thanks
5:02 pm:<fcat> mostly oddball custom sessions stuff
5:02 pm:<LS_Bill> ok, clean those out, just a theory, I think we're hunting a needle in the haystack here
5:02 pm:<Gayle> chad how would you include in a signal that when the first hour high is being tested that the bid volume was greater than the ask volume?
5:03 pm:<fcat> y everything in there is old Bill
5:03 pm:<fcat> what about the TickData text document?
5:03 pm:<LS_Bill> that can go also
5:04 pm:<LS_Bill> installer put that there, just a placeholder
5:04 pm:<fcat> ok
5:04 pm:<fcat> ok all empty
5:04 pm:<LS_Bill> brb
5:06 pm:<Gayle> so that would be the total bid volume vs ask volume for the day?
5:06 pm:<Gayle> you cannot configure it for the bid vs ask volume on that bar?
5:06 pm:<LS_Chad> yes....those values should get reset to zero at the open...and provided you keep program open, accumulate during the day
5:06 pm:<LS_Chad> have you looked at the new VP charts?
5:06 pm:<Gayle> new UP charts???
5:07 pm:<LS_Chad> you can....but much more complicated...and processor intensive
5:07 pm:<LS_Chad> VP, volume profile
5:07 pm:<fcat> I have my default historical data retention setting for tick data to 0 (current session only)
5:07 pm:<LS_Chad> they break down bid/ask volume every way you can imagine
5:07 pm:<fcat> is this ok?
5:07 pm:<Gayle> i have the volume profile chart open
5:07 pm:<Gayle> i do not know what the darker lines are vs the lighter lines
5:07 pm:*** Christine has joined us
5:07 pm:<Gayle> the lighter lines are always longer
5:08 pm:<LS_Chad> http://www.linnsoft.com/tpo/charts/vp_ab.jpg
5:08 pm:<LS_Chad> what version are you using?
5:08 pm:<Gayle> 8.2 REV 3
5:09 pm:<Gayle> i like the way you are reminded of the update
5:09 pm:<Gayle> that is a great new feature
5:09 pm:<LS_Chad> get beta 7 when you see it up there....check out the Volume Profile charts....think you'll like it
5:09 pm:<Gayle> looks very cool
5:09 pm:<LS_Chad> yea...doesn't remind during beta phase though
5:09 pm:<Gayle> let me ask you this
5:09 pm:<LS_Bill> we haven't had a new release in awhile, 8.3 needs to go final soon
5:09 pm:<Gayle> will it work accurately with my track data
5:09 pm:<LS_Chad> and we're on the 17th beta :)
5:09 pm:<Gayle> it seems to me that my track does not have accurate tick data
5:10 pm:<LS_Chad> will have to see....it should
5:10 pm:<LS_Chad> if ticks are coming in with proper bid/ask...should be fine
5:10 pm:<LS_Chad> but it does rely on ticks...and for ticks to have proper bid / ask
5:10 pm:<Gayle> yes but how do you check that other than to compare esignal data and mytrack data on the same exact chart on the same day
5:11 pm:<LS_Chad> one other thing I did on TPO & VP charts, the space bar now will do an auto-download/backfill for you
5:11 pm:<LS_Chad> get the tick data required to fill chart...if you are missing any
5:11 pm:<LS_Chad> we can do that
5:11 pm:<Gayle> how do we find out how to use this new UP chart?
5:11 pm:<LS_Chad> run it for a day...and I'll send you esig chart to compare
5:11 pm:<LS_Chad> VP
5:11 pm:<LS_Chad> V for Volume :)
5:12 pm:<LS_Chad> I plan to document soon...with videos
5:12 pm:<Gayle> you know it would be great if you could do a live seminar talking and demonstrating this new stuff
5:12 pm:<Gayle> cool
5:12 pm:<Gayle> hey if you need any help with Camtasia i could help you
5:12 pm:<LS_Chad> and I may open a paltalk room possibly as well to discuss
5:12 pm:<LS_Chad> camtasia?
5:13 pm:<Gayle> that is a program for recording your desktop or an area of your desktop as a video which you can edit and post
5:13 pm:<LS_Chad> ah....good for making avi files, etc?
5:13 pm:<LS_Chad> with audio, right?
5:13 pm:<LS_Chad> I've been using windows media encoder
5:13 pm:<Gayle> yes you can make flash files or the longer files
5:13 pm:<Gayle> camtasia is very easy to use
5:13 pm:<LS_Chad> it's free...and seems easy to use....but I'm sure there is better....was wondering about that actually
5:13 pm:<LS_Chad> free?
5:13 pm:<LS_Chad> :)
5:13 pm:<LS_Chad> how much
5:14 pm:<Gayle> you can get a month free trial but then it is around $300
5:14 pm:<LS_Chad> ok
5:14 pm:<LS_Chad> might get the trial and check it out
5:14 pm:<Gayle> http://www.techsmith.com/camtasia.asp
5:14 pm:<LS_Chad> is that what is primarily geared towards...making videos for help files, etc
5:14 pm:*** Cliff has joined us
5:14 pm:<Gayle> i think so
5:15 pm:<fcat> Bill my historical data retention for tick data is set to 0 (current session only) is this ok?
5:15 pm:<Gayle> the same company makes SnagIT
5:15 pm:<LS_Bill> 8.3 beta 17 is available for downloading: http://www.linnsoft.com/dl/win/beta/irt_win_830b17.exe
5:15 pm:<LS_Bill> OS X will be there later today
5:15 pm:<Gayle> if you want me to tell you more about it you can call me or i can call you
5:16 pm:<LS_Bill> fcat, 0 days of ticks is the default setting, gives you ticks for current session, no historical ticks for prior sessions
5:17 pm:<fcat> yes thats fine
5:17 pm:<fcat> just wanted to make suret that had nothing to do with my issue
5:17 pm:*** Daniel has left
5:17 pm:<LS_Chad> so it will record what I'm doing on screen...along with my audio (don't have to put the audio in afterwards)
5:18 pm:<Gayle> yes very easy to do
5:18 pm:<Gayle> and easy to stop and start
5:18 pm:<LS_Chad> downloading now....thanks
5:18 pm:<Gayle> and you can compose short videos and put them together in a presentatino
5:18 pm:<LS_Chad> will trial have some watermark or something on videos I produce?
5:19 pm:<LS_Chad> nice
5:19 pm:*** Daniel has joined us
5:19 pm:<Gayle> and if you save as a flash file the user can scroll through the video and stop and start
5:19 pm:<Gayle> no
5:19 pm:<Gayle> trial does not have a watermark
5:19 pm:<Daniel> hey...back..sorry had some things to do here
5:19 pm:<Daniel> hey Gayle!
5:19 pm:<LS_Chad> why do you use this? another software product, right?
5:19 pm:<Daniel> hmm..beta 17 has all fonts in bold
5:19 pm:<Gayle> you have to know how to change the title pane in the presentation window
5:20 pm:<Gayle> i have done videos for TradeMaven
<LS_Chad> right
5:20 pm:<LS_Bill> ugh, installer problem Daniel
5:20 pm:<LS_Bill> I will fix
5:20 pm:<Daniel> lol
5:20 pm:<Daniel> k
5:20 pm:<Gayle> http://www.tmdownloads.com/OSBasics/OSB.html
5:20 pm:<Gayle> check out that link
5:20 pm:<Gayle> i did that video series
5:21 pm:<Daniel> let me scroll back and see what I've missed
5:21 pm:<Daniel> in chat
5:21 pm:<LS_Chad> nice
5:21 pm:<Gayle> i would be happy to help you if you need help
5:22 pm:<LS_Chad> ok..thanks...will email you if I get stuck
5:22 pm:<LS_Chad> is that flash?
5:22 pm:<Gayle> yes
5:22 pm:<Gayle> you have different choices of how to convert the original file
5:23 pm:<Gayle> you can save the original and do different versions if you wanted
5:23 pm:<LS_Chad> so you can easily append to end of existing video
5:23 pm:<LS_Chad> that's what I haven't been able to do with WME
5:24 pm:<Gayle> yes just use the slider bar and you will see how you can scroll through the video
5:24 pm:<Gayle> this will be much easier and faster for you i bet
5:24 pm:<fcat> speaking of fonts.....
5:24 pm:<Gayle> and it is a business expense
5:24 pm:<fcat> how difficult would it be to add additional font sizes to IRT?
5:25 pm:<LS_Bill> for what?
5:25 pm:<fcat> I would like a smaller font for qps'
5:25 pm:<LS_Bill> there is a font selector in the prefs window
5:25 pm:<fcat> tos as well
5:25 pm:<Daniel> what fixes were done to b17 may I ask?
5:26 pm:<fcat> y I know 8 is smallest tho right?
5:26 pm:<LS_Bill> the sizes that are available depend on the fonts installed on your computer
5:26 pm:<fcat> didn't know that
5:27 pm:<LS_Bill> I think if you specify a font size smaller than what is available for a particular font, Windows will scale it down though
5:27 pm:<LS_Bill> you must have great eyesight wanting to go lower than 8
5:27 pm:<LS_Chad> very nice...just made my first video with it....thanks again Gayle
5:27 pm:<Gayle> so chad where is the best place to learn more about creating signals
5:28 pm:<Gayle> do you need Variable V# to create more complex signals
5:28 pm:<Gayle> ok cool chad
5:28 pm:<LS_Chad> what's best output format...I'll post it
5:28 pm:<LS_Chad> avi for now?
5:28 pm:<Daniel> QT pleas!
5:29 pm:<LS_Chad> the link I gave earlier Gayle...you see that?
5:29 pm:<Gayle> flash is the best because you can scroll through the video
5:29 pm:<fcat> lol bill
5:29 pm:<Gayle> yes i looked at all the links you gave me
5:29 pm:<LS_Chad> let me try to post flash
5:29 pm:<fcat> sit with my nose on the screen ;-)
5:29 pm:<Gayle> flash files cannot be too long
5:29 pm:<Gayle> probably should not be more than 30 min video
5:30 pm:<Gayle> but you can always make in segments and put together in a theater like the link i gave you
5:30 pm:<fcat> can't seem to get smaller than 8 in a qp
5:30 pm:<fcat> I can get a 7 in time and sales
5:31 pm:<Daniel> you running a 30" Apple Cinema by any chance?
5:32 pm:<fcat> lol Dan
5:32 pm:<fcat> you know it
5:32 pm:<Daniel> have to be with that little of a font siz being clear
5:32 pm:<Daniel> LOL
5:32 pm:<Daniel> xclnt!
5:33 pm:<LS_Chad> Gayle, how do I save as flash
5:33 pm:<LS_Bill> 8.3 beta 17 is ready (again)
5:33 pm:<fcat> can actually read an 8 in a qp pretty easily from 6ft away or so
5:33 pm:<LS_Chad> is that not option in trial?
5:33 pm:<Gayle> just a sec and let me look
5:34 pm:<LS_Chad> Produce a video as....is grayed
5:34 pm:<fcat> black backround and 8 bold
5:35 pm:<Gayle> ok now i remember
5:35 pm:<Gayle> you save first as AVI
5:35 pm:<LS_Chad> how?
5:35 pm:<Gayle> then when you go to produce the video you produce as flash
5:35 pm:*** Daniel has left
5:36 pm:<fcat> aren't all those fonts in XP scalable?
5:36 pm:<fcat> can't get smaller than an 8
5:36 pm:*** Daniel has joined us
5:36 pm:<Gayle> then you go to produce in shareable format
5:36 pm:<fcat> I'm kind of a windiot remember
5:36 pm:<LS_Chad> how do I save as avi...can't seem to do that
5:37 pm:<LS_Chad> might not be available in trial
5:37 pm:<Gayle> just sent you a picture in email
5:38 pm:<Gayle> i believe you can because i produced a few videos on trial ....at least that is what i remember
5:39 pm:<LS_Chad> how do I get that productino wizard window though?
5:40 pm:<LS_Chad> I got it now
5:40 pm:<Gayle> when you start check produce video from file
5:41 pm:<Gayle> instead of create video
5:42 pm:*** Christine has left
5:42 pm:<LS_Chad> http://www.linnsoft.com/tpo/video/vp/vp.html
5:43 pm:<LS_Chad> excuse my voice...allergies
5:43 pm:<LS_Chad> very brief....just testing
5:43 pm:*** dogfoot_1 has joined us
5:44 pm:<LS_Chad> I gotta run....thanks Gayle...looks like a really nice tool
5:44 pm:<Daniel> very nice
5:44 pm:*** js has joined us
5:44 pm:<Gayle> ok thanks for your help chad
5:45 pm:<LS_Chad> have a good evening everyone...let me know of any issues with VP or TPO charts in beta 17
5:45 pm:<LS_Chad> thanks you...bye
5:45 pm:<Daniel> u know I will
5:45 pm:<Daniel> lol
5:45 pm:<js> Beta URL again?
5:45 pm:<fcat> ty chad..nite
5:46 pm:<LS_Chad> www.linnsoft.com/dl/win/beta
5:46 pm:<LS_Chad> I think Bill is fixing something though
5:46 pm:<LS_Bill> it's fixed
5:46 pm:<js> thx
5:46 pm:<LS_Bill> http://www.linnsoft.com/dl/win/beta/irt_win_830b17.exe
5:47 pm:<fcat> got smaller fonts working
5:47 pm:<fcat> I'm an idiot
5:47 pm:<LS_Bill> the beta has further TPO and Volume Profile improvements
5:47 pm:<LS_Bill> display formats were added for halves and six decimals
5:48 pm:<LS_Bill> and a new chart setup wizard debuts in this release
5:49 pm:<LS_Bill> File: New: Chart, or right-click on Chart icon on toolbar starts the wizard
5:50 pm:<LS_Bill> also the Mac Intel version is now availabe as of beta 16
5:52 pm:<Daniel> I saw that and am running the universal version at night
5:53 pm:<LS_Bill> you are? on what?
5:53 pm:<Daniel> G5
5:53 pm:<LS_Bill> you mean you're runnong on powerpc
5:53 pm:<Daniel> y
5:53 pm:<Mike> hi all
5:53 pm:<LS_Bill> that universal IRT was "built" on an Intel Mac
5:54 pm:<LS_Bill> I ran it awhile on my G4, runs the same as the pure powerpc beta 16
5:54 pm:<Daniel> yeah I know...and I can install OSX on my PC to test it but have not had the time to do it
5:54 pm:<Daniel> snappier?
5:54 pm:<LS_Bill> the universal is a bigger file to download
5:54 pm:<Mike> ahh i can run universal on G5 also?
5:54 pm:<LS_Bill> universal means powerpc or intel
5:55 pm:<Mike> right
5:55 pm:<LS_Bill> can drag the application from a powerpc over the network to an intel mac and launch it
5:55 pm:<Mike> I'll test both i guess
5:55 pm:<Mike> I'll try to get imactel
5:55 pm:<LS_Bill> there is a special starter database for those running on intel macs for the first time
5:55 pm:<Mike> I be gone on sprign break vacation all next week fyi
5:56 pm:<Mike> hope IRT keeps running! and feed going mytrack forsure PC ib I'll have issues
5:56 pm:<Mike> keeping feed automatcially goin g
5:56 pm:<LS_Bill> beta 17 for powerpc is ready: http://www.linnsoft.com/dl/osx/beta/powerpc/irt_osx_830b17.dmg
5:56 pm:<LS_Bill> universal later today
5:57 pm:<Daniel> seems so on this end although that might be hard to tell
5:57 pm:<Daniel> k
5:57 pm:<fcat> universal IRT mustbe on Tiger though right Bill?
5:59 pm:<LS_Bill> yes, 10.4 is required
6 pm:<LS_Bill> theoretically, it should run on 10.3.5 on powerpc but I have had problems with it
6 pm:<LS_Bill> it's beginning to look like Tiger is a must
6 pm:<fcat> yes
6:01 pm:<LS_Bill> The chart setup wizard in beta 17 makes it far earier to create quite complex charts very quickly, using a simple user interface
6:02 pm:<LS_Bill> you click once to pick a chart type, select a symbol (or type it in) check some boxes for the moving averages, buttons, and other indicators you want
6:02 pm:<LS_Bill> and the wizard makes the chart for you
6:03 pm:<fcat> sure....now that I have all my charts setup the old fashioned way
6:03 pm:<fcat> :)
6:03 pm:<LS_Bill> it is designed to show off some of the power of IRT to users who otherwize might now know how to make such charts
6:03 pm:<Mike> neato
6:04 pm:<LS_Bill> you can put the wizard off to the side, as you click "Apply" to make one chart after another, it's pretty cool
6:04 pm:<Mike> Bill can I aks yoru near term next plans...
6:04 pm:<Mike> is real playback close to top?
6:05 pm:<LS_Bill> the wizard remembers the last setups you used so when you come back to it, just fill in a symbol and ok the window
6:06 pm:<tuna_> cool
6:07 pm:<LS_Bill> playback is very hard to do in the context of tranditional charts, it's a can of worms frankly, I'm not working on it, not planning on it anytime soon
6:08 pm:<Mike> ok well I'd look at it as a feed
6:08 pm:<LS_Bill> I know you ask me about it about 1000 times, I wish you would just let it lie
6:08 pm:<Mike> ie have playback be a feed type thign into a set or linked charts :)
6:08 pm:<Mike> ok sorry
6:09 pm:<LS_Bill> maybe one day I'll surprize you
6:09 pm:<Mike> actually i can care less it is for others really
6:09 pm:<Mike> fine
6:09 pm:<Daniel> lol
6:09 pm:<Mike> have good day I have to run bbye
6:09 pm:<fcat> :)
6:09 pm:<fcat> cya mike
6:10 pm:<LS_Bill> Mike, if others care, let them ask
6:10 pm:<Mike> I should care less I guess.
6:11 pm:<fcat> forgot to mention Bill...
6:11 pm:<fcat> been keeping track of my buffer full count daily
6:11 pm:<LS_Bill> everytime I do a little something that I think users will like, like this chart wizard, I get "what about playback" I cannot tell you how sick I am of it
6:11 pm:<LS_Bill> ok fcat
6:11 pm:<fcat> on the low end been seeing about 700
6:12 pm:<fcat> 1400 on the highend
6:12 pm:<LS_Bill> across how many hours
6:12 pm:<fcat> from session 0 open to an hour or so after close
6:12 pm:<fcat> tho it never geta any fuller after session 0 closes
6:13 pm:<LS_Bill> that's maybe twice a minute, too high I think
6:13 pm:<fcat> actually about 45 minutes before sess 0 opens I connect feed
6:13 pm:<tuna_> bill you just did
6:13 pm:<LS_Bill> what feed do you use?
6:13 pm:<fcat> ok
6:13 pm:<js> Question: Any plans for tabbed pages or scrolldown charts aka Firefox type features?
6:13 pm:<fcat> iq
6:14 pm:<fcat> maybe high Bill...half what it was tho if I remember
6:14 pm:<LS_Bill> yes, big improvement
6:14 pm:<fcat> today was 1310
6:15 pm:<LS_Bill> there is a hidden feature in the IQ version you might experiment with
6:15 pm:<fcat> in 8hrs
6:15 pm:<fcat> or so
6:15 pm:<fcat> ok
6:15 pm:<LS_Bill> create a txt file in your admin directory using note pad
6:16 pm:<LS_Bill> the file will contain one line of text,
6:16 pm:<LS_Bill> a number
6:16 pm:<LS_Bill> 0512
6:16 pm:<LS_Bill> is the default
6:16 pm:<LS_Bill> but you can make the number higher
6:16 pm:<LS_Bill> up to 9999
6:16 pm:<LS_Bill> the higher the number, the more IRT favors the incoming data vs the user interface
6:17 pm:<LS_Bill> so try 1024
6:17 pm:<LS_Bill> or 2048
6:17 pm:<LS_Bill> and see if you find a higher number where the buffer full counts go away
6:17 pm:<fcat> interesting
6:17 pm:<LS_Bill> the name of the file must be iqprefs.txt
6:18 pm:<LS_Bill> the first four characters in the first line of the file are all that matters
6:18 pm:<LS_Bill> if the file just isn't there, IRT uses 512 for DTN IQ, that's what you have been running with
6:18 pm:<fcat> I will give it a try
6:19 pm:<fcat> is this actually increasing the buffer?
6:19 pm:<Daniel> y
6:19 pm:<LS_Bill> after connecting to DTN, look at your message log, you should see a message indicating that it set the number
6:19 pm:<fcat> ok
6:20 pm:<LS_Bill> the buffer we are using is huge, it sets a counter that tells IRT how hard to work on the feed before relinguishing control periodicially for user interface
6:20 pm:<fcat> will try 1024 first
6:21 pm:<LS_Bill> <js> Question: Any plans for tabbed pages or scrolldown charts aka Firefox type features?
6:21 pm:<LS_Bill> what are scrolldown charts?
6:21 pm:<Daniel> i did 9999 on OSX without a hiccup
6:21 pm:<LS_Bill> daniel, did you obverse your buffer full count?
6:22 pm:<LS_Bill> observe
6:22 pm:<Daniel> didnt notice but the problem i have still happens
6:22 pm:<LS_Bill> tabbed charts, or at least to effect of a tabbed chart can be done now via "ticker buttons" in the chart
6:23 pm:<LS_Bill> you can have a row of ticker symbol b uttons across the top of an IRT chart whereby clicking any button switches the chart to that symbol
6:23 pm:<LS_Bill> I'm not sure what a scrolldown chart is, anyone know?
6:23 pm:<fcat> I gather there shouldn't be an iqprefs.txt file in the admin folder at present?
6:23 pm:<Mike> collapse expand triangle maybe
6:24 pm:<Daniel> I didnt have the data status window open and it was before the open so when I saw the "no data on connection last 2 min message i quit OSX and dedicated my screens to the PC
6:24 pm:<LS_Bill> no fcat it is testing feature, hidden feature
6:24 pm:<fcat> ok thought so
6:24 pm:<fcat> ty
6:25 pm:<LS_Bill> the ability to collapse an indicator pane on demand is also available via buttons in IRT, it's just that the user interface is a button click rather than a tab or a disclosure triangle
6:26 pm:*** tHEfED has joined us
6:26 pm:<Mike> Hello tHEfED. Welcome to #Linnsoft. :)
6:26 pm:<Mike> Hello tHEfED. Welcome to the Linn Software Chat room.
6:26 pm:<tHEfED> is this where that trouble maker mike hangs out?
6:27 pm:<fcat> you're in the right place
6:27 pm:<tuna_> he went to soccer
6:27 pm:<fcat> man that admin folder has alot in it
6:27 pm:<LS_Bill> chad the trouble maker?
6:27 pm:<Mike> Tradestation can't do change or range bar can it?
6:27 pm:<fcat> over a gig
6:27 pm:<LS_Bill> fcat use db wizard, click delete temp files
6:28 pm:<LS_Bill> alt+U, then click to delete temporary files.
6:28 pm:<fcat> ok
6:28 pm:<tuna_> he was looking for mike
6:28 pm:<tuna_> lol
6:28 pm:<LS_Bill> oh
6:28 pm:<tHEfED> Tradestation cant do custom bars...no
6:28 pm:<js> Bill, visualize a webpage. If the page is long u have to scrolldown to see the rest of the page.
6:28 pm:<tHEfED> 1 min. 3 min, tick, volume....thats it
6:28 pm:<fcat> wholly...delet 10k files
6:28 pm:<LS_Bill> vertical scrolling you mean, not just time (horizonal) scrolling
6:29 pm:<js> And I assume you're familiar with Firefox browser tabbed pages. Just hoping to make more efficient use of scarce screen real estate
6:29 pm:<js> Correct
6:29 pm:<LS_Bill> well, experiement with buttons <js>, those can give you the effect of a tabbed ticker symbol list at the top of the chart
6:29 pm:<js> Just not sure how much a memory hog these kinds of features would be
6:30 pm:<LS_Bill> as for veritcal scrolling, we condense the scale to fit the window size
6:30 pm:<fcat> how often should those temp files be deleted?
6:30 pm:<LS_Bill> so everything is in view
6:30 pm:<fcat> don't think I ever have
6:30 pm:<js> Oh. I was thinking of multiple charts on a page. You vertical scroll down to see 2nd page of charts. That sort of thing
6:31 pm:<LS_Bill> once a week, setup a schedule to do it every day or every friday whatever
6:31 pm:<LS_Bill> well, we have a "slide show" feature for that
6:31 pm:<fcat> will do thanks Bill
6:31 pm:<LS_Bill> where IRT will sequence any list of symbols thru the same chart window
6:31 pm:<LS_Bill> one after the other with an N second delay between each chart, you specify N
6:32 pm:<fcat> slide show is an awesome feature
6:32 pm:<LS_Bill> just open any chart and any quotepage, then click slideshow button in the chart or qp toolbar
6:32 pm:<fcat> use it every am
6:32 pm:<fcat> after running am scans
6:32 pm:<LS_Bill> you can also step the slide show manually one chart at a time at your own pace if you want
6:33 pm:<LS_Bill> right, a scan produces a quotepage of symbols that are then fed to the slideshow
6:33 pm:*** tHEfED has left
6:33 pm:<fcat> I run slide show to filter out the instruments I feel aren't worth watching
6:34 pm:<fcat> slideshow keeps me from having to double clik all the symbols to view
6:34 pm:<LS_Bill> there is also a "Chart Wizard" for quickly viewing an array of N by M charts for a list of symbols
6:34 pm:<LS_Bill> in the Setup: Menu
6:34 pm:<LS_Bill> can look at 9 or 16, or 25 charts, 25 symbols at a time
6:34 pm:<Mike> is there a way to tell if IRT I ran is univeral binary one?
6:34 pm:<LS_Bill> each advance gives you another 25 charts
6:35 pm:<LS_Bill> yes, Mike, use Get Info
6:35 pm:<LS_Bill> it will say "Application (Universal)"
6:35 pm:<LS_Bill> or Application (PowerPC)
6:35 pm:<LS_Bill> or Application (Intel)
6:35 pm:<Mike> ok then it opend my osx charts ok
6:35 pm:<LS_Bill> depending on how it was built
6:35 pm:<Mike> I liek to force it to open a data_F in a different directory for testing
6:36 pm:<LS_Bill> that's not as easy as it used to be
6:36 pm:<Mike> ok
6:36 pm:<LS_Bill> where do you keep your IRT Folder now?
6:36 pm:<Mike> well it opened OSX db but I'm on G5 still
6:36 pm:<LS_Bill> in .../applications support
6:36 pm:<Mike> well trading folder in the lib rary
6:36 pm:<Mike> right
6:36 pm:<Mike> wanted another db for testing
6:37 pm:*** js has left
6:37 pm:<LS_Bill> ok, if you rename that folder, from "InvestorRT" to something else before you startup
6:37 pm:<LS_Bill> then IRT will ask you where to find the data_f
6:37 pm:<Mike> ok
6:38 pm:<LS_Bill> where you are finished testing, quit IRT, delete the testing folder, and rename the real one back to "InvestorRT" so the software can find it
6:38 pm:<Mike> ok
6:38 pm:<arno> Bill - at the end of the session, I look at data for a 15 min chart and the last is 9.98 at 3:59, but after I download the daily, it will state 20 at 4:00
6:38 pm:<arno> sorry I meant 10 instead of 20
6:39 pm:<arno> Am I not getting that last second of data from dtn?
6:39 pm:<arno> this is only on some instruments
6:41 pm:<LS_Bill> arno, the 4:00pm bar is the bar that "ended" at 4:00 pm
6:41 pm:<LS_Bill> we time stamp bars with the time of day that the bar ends, not the time it began
6:42 pm:<arno> right - I'm looking at the view/edit data "spreadhseet"
6:42 pm:<LS_Bill> this is in the context of traditional charting in IRT. Are you using TPO or VP charts?
6:42 pm:<LS_Bill> ok right, the times are the ending times there as well
6:42 pm:<arno> no - just traditionals.
6:43 pm:<arno> I had a case yesterday where the ending time was 3:59 instead of 4:00
6:43 pm:<arno> I should have saved it and sent it to you - it was rathe rod.
6:43 pm:<arno> odd
6:43 pm:<LS_Bill> if there were no trades between 3:59 and 4:00pm then there would not be a bar, that would be a rare think though
6:44 pm:<LS_Bill> rare occurrence
6:44 pm:<arno> yes - I'll keep my eye on it and email you if I see it happen again.
6:44 pm:<LS_Bill> you can always perform a one minute download after the close to see if that bar fills in
6:45 pm:<arno> ok
6:46 pm:*** Gayle has left
6:47 pm:<LS_Bill> time to call it a day, I hope everyone has a nice evening.
6:47 pm:<LS_Bill> so long for now
6:48 pm:<fcat> thank you Bill
