4:40 pm:<LS_Chad> ok...good
4:40 pm:*** LS_Bill has joined us
4:40 pm:<LS_Chad> Hey guys...any questions
4:40 pm:<LS_Bill> hello, sorry I'm late
4:41 pm:<Hayden> TO YOUR OWN PARTY? NO PROBLEM
4:41 pm:<subq> hey bill check PM
4:43 pm:<Csaba> hello, I am having problems with reference lines with indicators, they seem to migrate over to the price somehow
4:43 pm:<LS_Chad> reference lines on indicator panes?
4:43 pm:<Csaba> am i doing something wrong?
4:43 pm:<LS_Bill> see Setup: Preferences: Technical Indicators
4:43 pm:<Csaba> yes
4:43 pm:<LS_Bill> pick Reference LInes
4:43 pm:<LS_Bill> your default settings are cuasing the lines to be associated with some price
4:44 pm:<LS_Bill> it sounds like
4:44 pm:<LS_Bill> which setting do you use as your default in Ref Lines
4:44 pm:<Csaba> ok I got the reference lines up
4:44 pm:<Csaba> and it shows
4:45 pm:<Csaba> "specific price"
4:45 pm:<Csaba> 0
4:45 pm:<LS_Bill> ok, well that settings means when you create a ref line it should drag and drop whereever you like
4:45 pm:<LS_Chad> if you're on latest 8.5.5, right-click in chart and choose "share picture"...and share the chart and def
4:46 pm:<LS_Chad> at what point does it "migrate"?
4:46 pm:<LS_Chad> when closing / reopening chart?
4:46 pm:<LS_Chad> when dragging it
4:46 pm:<Csaba> if I go back to the chart later it shows up in the price
4:46 pm:<Csaba> exactly at the value I set it to in the indicater pane
4:47 pm:<LS_Chad> ah...do you have the indicator setup as "this chart, this instrument"?
4:48 pm:<Csaba> I set ti in the pref-charts -general and
4:49 pm:<Csaba> the this chart this instrument is checked
4:49 pm:<LS_Chad> if you double-click on the ref line...to bring up it's preferences....is it setup as "this chart, this instrument" at bottom?
4:49 pm:<LS_Chad> ok
4:49 pm:<LS_Chad> yea...it appears that "this chart, this instrument" lines by default go into same pane as instrument on reopening chart
4:50 pm:<Csaba> I am just double checking it I was
4:50 pm:<Csaba> fooling around with these line quite a bit
4:51 pm:<Csaba> All I want is to set a line to a specific value and get an alarm when the indicators value crosses it
4:51 pm:<LS_Chad> I suspect that the lines you're adding are "this chart, this instrument"..
4:52 pm:<LS_Chad> however, if you add a ref line directly to a secondary indicator pane...it should come in setup as "this chart, any instrument"
4:52 pm:<LS_Chad> and those should be maintained fine when closing / reopening chart...
4:52 pm:<Csaba> Ok now I am trying to recreate it and the line I set comes up
4:52 pm:<LS_Chad> are you switching back and forth between symbols alot in this cahrt?
4:52 pm:<Csaba> as this chart any instrument- at least now
4:52 pm:<LS_Bill> There is a Preference setting for that in Setup: Prefs: Charts: General
4:52 pm:<LS_Chad> ok...yea, that's what you want
4:52 pm:<LS_Bill> that is forcing ref lines, trendlines to be "This Chart, This Instrument"
4:53 pm:<LS_Chad> right...but if you add the line to a secondary pane, that setting doesn't effect it
4:53 pm:<LS_Chad> only when adding the line to the instruments pane
4:53 pm:<Csaba> this was my impression also
4:54 pm:<Csaba> should it work in the indicator pane though
4:57 pm:<Csaba> or whats the easiest way to set an alarm to a value in the indicator pane?
4:57 pm:*** Tingull has joined us
4:58 pm:<Tingull> Hi there, I have a Q about the zoom tool on Mac OSX
4:58 pm:<Tingull> it doesnt seem to be working correctly
4:58 pm:*** fcat has joined us
4:59 pm:<LS_Bill> what seems wrong, Tingull
4:59 pm:<Tingull> When I click and drag a box around some candlesticks, it makes that selection VERY small and shoves it to the far right
5 pm:<LS_Chad> csaba....those reference lines are monitoring for price..not indicator values...
5 pm:*** fcat has left
5 pm:<LS_Chad> best way to set an alert on indicator level...is with a signal
5 pm:<LS_Chad> for instance: CCI crossing above 100: CCI > 100 AND CCI.1 <= 100
5:01 pm:<LS_Chad> do you have pro version?
5:01 pm:<LS_Chad> watch the video on "Signal Markers and Custom Indicator Basics" http://www.linnsoft.com/videos/
5:01 pm:<Csaba> I think its the pro version
5:02 pm:<LS_Bill> the zoom tool is designed to enable you to outline a range of trading and have that range expanded to fill the entire window
5:02 pm:<LS_Chad> tingull...use the up/down arrows...or scroll wheel...to zoom in / out
5:02 pm:<LS_Bill> if you only pick a few bars it may behave as you described
5:02 pm:<Csaba> Chad I would like to use different values for selected stocks
5:02 pm:<LS_Bill> the zoon tool generally sets the pixels per bar automatically so the selected bars fill the screen however
5:02 pm:<Tingull> oh wow...the up and down arrows work perfectly
5:03 pm:<Csaba> but I will watch the video
5:03 pm:<Tingull> now...is there a way to set the trend line tool so that it is always on?
5:03 pm:<Csaba> maybe I can come up with an easy solution
5:03 pm:*** fcat has joined us
5:03 pm:<LS_Bill> if you hold down shift key while drawing a trendline, it stays on when you're done
5:04 pm:<LS_Bill> so you can draw lots of lines without having to reactivate the tool
5:04 pm:<Tingull> perfect
5:04 pm:<Tingull> this is my first...hour using this software. I'm sure I'll have more Qs as time goes on and I'll be sure to watch the vids
5:04 pm:<LS_Bill> same applies to ref line tool, and others
5:05 pm:<Tingull> wonderful! I'm very excited and you guys are awesome, I really appreciate the help!
5:05 pm:<Csaba> the alarm setup tool is a great shortcut for price alarms
5:05 pm:<LS_Chad> that's a good point Csaba...if a ref line (or trendline) is in a pane with an indicator and not bars/candles...it's alerts should be based on the values of the indicator
5:05 pm:<Csaba> would it be possible to make it work with indicators ?
5:06 pm:<LS_Chad> I'll look into it
5:07 pm:<Csaba> that would be great
5:08 pm:<Csaba> when I use the alarm setup tool is there a way to mark the setup value on the instrument pane
5:09 pm:<Csaba> I mean the value I set it to
5:09 pm:<LS_Chad> high and low alarms?
5:09 pm:<Csaba> yes
5:10 pm:<LS_Chad> yes
5:10 pm:<LS_Chad> add an Annotation (using the small "a" button on toolbar)
5:10 pm:<LS_Chad> and enter the text "%HIALARM" or "%LOALARM" or both
5:10 pm:<LS_Chad> "H:%HIALARM L:%LOALARM"
5:11 pm:*** Tingull has left
5:14 pm:<fcat> Bill/Chad...any good news on my 1 min candle eating bug?
5:15 pm:<LS_Bill> nothing at all fcat
5:15 pm:<fcat> :(
5:15 pm:<LS_Bill> it continues to defy us
5:15 pm:<fcat> yeah.....I did my best to stump you guys
5:15 pm:<LS_Bill> all we really need is a test case to reproduce the problem reliably every day
5:15 pm:<fcat> you were getting too good
5:15 pm:<fcat> ;-)
5:16 pm:<fcat> I can a couple chairs for you two here at my desk
5:17 pm:<fcat> I can reproduce it every morning at 8:31
5:18 pm:<fcat> seems like the tick data isn't being converted into 1 min bars
5:20 pm:<LS_Bill> the conversion of ticks from the prior day?
5:20 pm:<LS_Bill> what are your retention settings?
5:20 pm:<LS_Bill> how many days of ticks?
5:20 pm:<fcat> 0 days of ticks
5:21 pm:<LS_Bill> ah, so the creation of one minute bars is supposed to happen the night before at post time
5:21 pm:<fcat> they should convert to 1m bars when I post...right ?
5:21 pm:<LS_Bill> yes
5:21 pm:<fcat> ok
5:21 pm:<LS_Bill> but the chart window is left open all night right?
5:21 pm:<LS_Bill> left open from the previous close
5:22 pm:<fcat> I shut down irt every night
5:22 pm:<fcat> but all charts remain open..yes
5:22 pm:<fcat> and the 1min bars are all there the following morning......until the open
5:23 pm:<LS_Bill> there is a diagnostic tool you can use, before the open, to see how much historical data you have on file for the symbol in quesiton
5:23 pm:<LS_Bill> this may help us diagnose the problem
5:23 pm:<fcat> ok
5:23 pm:<LS_Bill> open a quick quote window on the symbol
5:23 pm:<LS_Bill> hold down the ctrl key while you click the blue "get info" button
5:24 pm:<LS_Bill> this gives you a report showing a breakdown of your historical data
5:24 pm:<LS_Bill> do this before and after the open and save the reports to text files so I can see what's going on
5:25 pm:<fcat> ok....gotcha
5:27 pm:<LS_Bill> might be interesting to do this report before and after the post time
5:27 pm:<LS_Bill> to see how the historical data on file changes as a result of the post
5:28 pm:<fcat> ok
5:29 pm:<fcat> will save files before open, after bars disappear, right befor close/post, and after
5:29 pm:<fcat> post
5:29 pm:<LS_Bill> ok, we may solve this mystery yet.
5:30 pm:<fcat> hope so
5:30 pm:<fcat> historical diagnotics shows values for daily, weekly, monthly, and tick
5:30 pm:<fcat> is this correct?
5:31 pm:<LS_Bill> should show bars as well as tick
5:32 pm:<fcat> hmmm
5:33 pm:*** Arno has left
5:34 pm:<LS_Bill> one sec. let me check something, it may be only showing the tick content
5:36 pm:<fcat> just sent it to you
5:37 pm:<fcat> fyi.....I have posted, shutdown, and restarted irt this afternoon tho
5:38 pm:<Mike> hi all
5:39 pm:<LS_Bill> the "tick" portion of the reports first shows intraday bars, there are typically blocks of 83 bars each
5:39 pm:<LS_Bill> these are followed by block of 100 ticks each
5:41 pm:<fcat> ok.....I have the 83 bar blocks
5:41 pm:<fcat> not the 100 tick blocks tho
5:42 pm:<LS_Bill> if you have 0 tick days retention, then no tick data is kept on the db long term
5:42 pm:<fcat> I assume this is because I have historical tick retention set to 0 days
5:42 pm:<LS_Bill> yes
5:42 pm:<fcat> ok
5:42 pm:<fcat> hey Mike
5:42 pm:<fcat> :)
5:44 pm:<fcat> BilI......I put yhoo in a 1m chart this afternoon around 2pm CST for the first time for the session
5:45 pm:<fcat> all 1 min bars were present
5:45 pm:<fcat> as soon as the current candle completed......all the previous candles were erased
5:46 pm:<fcat> leaving only the completed candle and the new one being drawn
5:48 pm:<fcat> the strange thing is when this occurs and I hit the download arrow in the corner of the chart....all the 1m bars come back instantly
5:49 pm:<fcat> there is no pause for a connection to the download server
5:49 pm:<fcat> the chart fills instantly like the data was just sitting there
5:58 pm:<Mike> Bill i will email you
6:03 pm:<LS_Bill> fcat, does the message log show the historical access?
6:03 pm:<LS_Bill> very strange
6:04 pm:<LS_Bill> ok Mike
6:06 pm:<fcat> historical access ?
6:08 pm:<fcat> oh....for the 1m data import
6:08 pm:<fcat> looking
6:09 pm:<fcat> grrrr
6:09 pm:*** Hayden has left
6:09 pm:<fcat> forgot I restarted already
6:10 pm:<fcat> message log only goes back a little
6:10 pm:<fcat> will check tomorrow
