- What's New in
Version 4.8 (April 6, 2001)
- View/Edit and Time/Sales
Preferences
Setup: Preferences: Time & Sales can be used to setup default preferences for View/Edit and Time/Sales windows. If you have a V/E or T/S window open, you can access the preferences by right-clicking (control-click if Macintosh) inside the window itself. Clicking the "plus sign" button just above the scrollbar in a V/E or T/S window causes the data column widths to be optimized.
- Dial/Data Daily auto-downloading
option
Clients with a Dial/Data account (including all clients using myTrack) can specify that auto-downloading of daily data use Dial/Data rather than the real-time server in use. To activate this feature go to Setup: Preferences: Dial/Data.
- Auto-Trendlines Enhanced

- Fibonacci Indicators
Enhanced
The three existing Fibonacci Indicators have been enhanced, and a fourth Fibonacci study, Fibonacci Time Zones, has been added.
The Fibonacci Arcs and Projections now give the user the ability to customize up to 8 Fibonacci percent levels, each with it's own line color, width, and style. The Fibonacci Retracement indicator gives the user up to 8 customizable percent levels, each again with it's own custom color, thickness, and style. And similarly, Fibonacci Time Zones provides 8 customized zone levels.
Fibonacci Retracements also have several additional new options. A new checkbox entitled "Use Last __ Bars" give the user an "Auto-Retracement" capability. For instance, if the user check this option and chose a value of "50" bars on a 1-minute chart, then an automated trendline connecting the high and low of the past 50 1-minute bars would be used as the base trendline for all retracement levels. A checkbox entitled "extend" gives the user the option of extending his retracement lines to the right edge of the chart, or limiting the line to the range of the base trendline (between the Begin and End date/times). A "Show %" checkbox gives the user the option of showing the percent level in an annotation box on the left side of each retracement line. A "Show Price" checkbox gives the user the option of showing the price in an annotation box on the left side of each retracement line.
The base trendline of Fibonacci Arcs, Projections, and Retracements can now be dragged precisely by simply dragging the small dot on either end of the line to a new position. The trendline will snap to the high or low of the bar to which it is dragged, depending on the relationship of that bars closing price to the closing price of the opposite points bar.
- New Indicator: Fibonacci Time
Zones
Use this tool on the chart toolbar to draw vertical (date/time) reference lines at fibonacci intervals from some starting date/time. Set the desired time increments in Setup: Preferences: Charts: Technical Indicators. To use the tool, click in the chart toolbar to activate the fibonacci time zone tool then position the mouse at the starting bar in the chart and click.

- New "Make Default" button when adjusting indicator
preferences
When adjusting preferences for a particular technical indicator in a chart, you can now click a "Make Default" button if you want the current settings for that specific indicator to become your default preference when adding that indicator to other charts in the future. The feature is designed to allow you to experiment with settings in a chart and then easily set the resulting settings as the default without having to go back to Setup: Preferences...
- Annotation
Indicator enhanced
- Chart Indicator selection, dragging, and dropping
improved

- New Pivot Point option to use daily data in intra-day
charts
- Improved "dotted line" drawing in traditional
charts
- Improved Rectangle /Owl Technical
Indicator

- TIME token can now be used in scans and custom
indicators
TIME was formerly useful only when backtesting. When used within a scan, TIME evaluates to the time of day of the bar being testing expressed as a whole number in the form hhmm (e.g. TIME >= 1315 tests for the time being 1:15 pm or
later)
- CUSIP can be
imported
This feature was added to enable users tracking many futures contracts to quickly update the CUSIP data for each future. CUSIP data is used to assign a futures contract to the "perpetual" futures instruments.
- "Owl" Indicator in Rectangle Tool further
enhanced

- Ultimate Oscillator technical indicator
added

- Linear Regression Acceleration technical indicator
added

- All chart types can now be locked to prevent multi-link
changes
Formerly, only traditional charts could be locked so there will not participate in "multi-linking" requests. Now, Day Bar, Raw Tick, Point and Figure, and all other non-traditional charts have a "lock" checkbox in the preferences for the chart for this purpose.
- Candlestick option added to Day Bar
chart
Day Bar charts can now be "Day Candles" by checking an checkbox in the preferences for the chart.
- New technical indicator and drawing
tool: Andrew's Pitchfork

- Traditional chart close pane behavior
revised
When you click the "x" box at the left edge of a traditional chart window pane title bar, Investor/RT now responds as follows:
1. If the pane contains only technical indicators, the indicators are removed from the chart window and the pane closes.
2. If the pane contains technical indicators along with one or more instruments, the indicators are removed but the pane remains open displaying only the instrument graphs.
3. If the pane contains only one or more instruments a warning message will prompt for removing the first instrument from the pane. Note that removing the one and only instrument from the overall chart effectively closes the chart window.
- Traditional chart view period enhancement: look ahead
period
Traditional chart windows can now have an optional "look ahead" period expressed as a number of bars. This option applies to charts having a view period of "Last N Days", "Last N hours", or "Begin to Present". The number of bars specified by the user is added to the view period, thereby allowing trendlines, Fibonacci indicators, Gann angles, etc. to extend into the future. The default look ahead period for new charts can be specified using Setup: Preferences: Charts: Traditional Charts. The look ahead period for a specific chart can then be revised using the chart's preference window. The look ahead period is expressed in bars, so if you change periodicities, the number of bars into the future will remain constant.
- View/Edit, Time & Sales
improvements
The View/Edit (Time & Sales) window has been further improved to provide immediate updating of open chart windows when ticks or bars are edited in the window, e.g. when correcting a bad tick. Formerly, the open charts for the symbol in question were not updated until the V/E or T/S window was closed. Editing or deleting ticks after sorting is now working properly as well.
- New RTL tokens: DAYM and
MONTH
These new tokens allow you to test for the day of the month (DAYM) or the month of the year (MONTH) in scans, signals, and custom indicators. DAYM evaluates to the day number in the range 1 to 31. MONTH yields a value 1 to 12. The DAY token yields a number 0 to 6 representing the day of the week (0 = Sunday, 1 = Monday, etc.).
- Adjusting horizontal and vertical scaling using the
mouse
Improvements have been made to facilitate using the mouse to manipulate the horizontal (time) scaling and the vertical (price) scaling.
Vertical scaling by default is automatic, that is, the scale minimum and maximum price values are obtained automatically by examining the price values of the instrument(s) in each chart pane as well as associated indicators. Manually scaling can set by right-clicking (control-click on Macintosh) in the vertical scale area to access the Vertical Scale Setup window. A faster way to adjust the scale values and turn on manual scaling is to mouse down and drag the mouse up or down in the vertical scale area of the chart pane. Where the mouse down (left mouse button) occurs affects the action when you drag the mouse. If you mouse down in the left hand side of the vertical scale area, the "Hand" cursor appears. Dragging the hand adjusts either the minimum or maximum scale value. Mouse down in the upper half of the pane to adjust the maximum scale value, in the lower half of the pane to adjust the minimum scale value. Mouse down in the right hand side of the vertical scale area displays the "Vertical Resize" cursor. Dragging the resize cursor adjusts both minimum and maximum values, increasing both values in tandem as you drag upward, decreasing both value in tandem was you drag downward. Note that after dragging, the scale is set to manual mode-scale adjustments will be required to observe price action outside the newly set minimum and maximum scale values.
Adjusting the horizontal scale with the mouse is done similarly. Mouse down in the horizontal (time) scale area of the chart to get the "Horizontal Resize" cursor. Drag left to increase the spacing between bars, drag right to decrease (compact) the spacing.
Finally, if you hold down the shift key while dragging the mouse in the horizontal scale area Investor/RT adds or subtracts "future look ahead" time to/from the chart window. Drag left to add more look ahead time. Drag right to decrease the amount of look ahead time.
- Assigning shortcut keys to schedules
(macros)
Improvements have been made to the schedule setup window to make it much easier to assign a keyboard shortcut to any schedule. Formerly, it was necessary to use Setup: Preferences: Keyboard Shortcuts to define a shortcut key and associate it with a particular schedule name. Now, in the Setup: Schedules window, when you click "New" to create a new schedule, or "Edit" to edit the properties of an existing schedule, the ensuing dialog box contains a "Shortcut Key" section for assigning a shortcut key to the schedule. Since schedules can be multi-step action sequences, this new feature makes it clearer that schedules can be used to create "macros", i.e. single keystrokes that initiate a series of Investor/RT actions. Schedules, of course, can also be run periodically or at particular times as well, or a schedule need not be "scheduled" at all, but run only in response to a shortcut key. A button is provided in the schedule setup for displaying the current list of all shortcuts (the "legend"). A "Delete" button is provided for removing a shortcut key for the schedule.
