Fixes, Miscellaneous Enhancements
-
8.0 Rev 5
Miscellaneous Fixes and Improvements
-----------------------------------------
The Interactive Brokers (IB) Version of Investor/RT now supports
multiple day downloads of one minute bars from TWS for chart backfill.
-----------------------------------------
Downloading of 52 Week High and Low from Yahoo! Finance is working again
(Fundamental Data Download). A problem was also corrected in the
"Current Quotes" download from Yahoo! Finance that was causing certain
ticker symbols to be "missed" by the download.
-----------------------------------------
In Price/Time Profile Charts, Initial Balance (IB), Point of Control (POC),
and Value Area (VA) lines, when requested, are now drawn on all
sessions/profiles.
-----------------------------------------
In the Setup: Instruments window you can expand the Advanced section of
the window by clicking on the disclosure triangle or on the word
"Advanced".
-----------------------------------------
When entering a ticker symbol into the "One Instrument" box in the
Download Data window, you may type a question mark at any point to open
the instrument selector. The instrument selector will be positioned on
the first symbol matching what has been entered before the question
mark.
-----------------------------------------
The keyboard shortcut Alt-D (Apple-D) will open the Download Data window
setup with the ticker symbol (when a chart is the front window), or with
the quotepage name (if a quotepage is the front window).
-----------------------------------------
The Download Data window title now shows whether you are downloading for
a specific ticker or a quotepage.
-----------------------------------------
The Schedule Action, Download Data, was performing the incorrect
download type in some cases. This has been corrected.
-----------------------------------------
-
Price/Time Profile
Enhancements
Price/Time Profile (TPO) setup now includes an option to specify
the starting letter other than A if desired. The duration of the first
time period can now be specified if you wish it to be different from the
others. A horizontal scale has been added at the bottom along with a
time line showing the percentage of the session completed thus far and
the percentage of each time interval completed thus far.
-
Intrabar Rules for
Trading System Indicator
Trading systems deployed in charts using the Trading System
Indicator may now have special rules that are tested "Intrabar". For
example, a TSYS Indicator running in a one minute chart, can have a "recalc
interval of say 5 seconds". Any intrabar rules in the trading system
will be tested during each one minute interval as the incoming data
triggers indicator recalculation. Intrabar rules can be used for example
to test for stop and target being reached and cause a signal action to
fire to exit the trade. Once an intrabar rule triggers a signal action,
it is not eligible to do so again until the next bar begins. When
backtesting a trading system having intrabar rules, those rules will
only be tested at the end of each bar.
-
Window Tremor in
Setup: Preferences: Sounds
A special sound named <Window Tremor> is not available for use in
Setup: Preferences: Sounds. This is a silent sound, it has only the
visual effect of trembling the front window. To see the effect, go to
the Sound Preferences, select <Window Tremor> and click the Preview
button. The Sound Preferences window, being the front window, will
tremble. There is also a <Window Tremor + Beep> choice in the sounds
lists.

8.0 Rev 4
Miscellaneous Fixes and Improvements
-----------------------------------------
A bug was fixed in the Chaiken Money Flow indicator that could cause a
fatal error when insufficient data was available to calculate the
indicator.
-----------------------------------------
A bug was fixed in the downloading/import of historical data that
dramatically improves the speed of import for users who maintain long
term intra-day databases with tens or hundreds of thousands of ticks or
bars on file.
-----------------------------------------
A bug was fixed in the running of scans. Scans that run periodically,
manually or on a schedule, and produce quotepages of results, were not
properly handling the case where the resulting quotepage becomes empty.
If a scan result quotepage is already open, showing results from an
earlier run of the scan, and the latest run of the scan makes the
quotepage empty, this could setup conditions leading to random fatal
errors at some unpredictable time many minutes or even hours later.
-----------------------------------------
The "Check for Updates" process, when invoked manually via the Help
Menu, or automatically from time to time, has been improved to download
the latest Investor/RT installer for you when a new version becomes
available. The user is prompted before the download begins and is
notified that Investor/RT must quit while the installer is run or
downloaded from the web site. If it is not convenient to quit when you
see the "new release available message", click cancel, then choose
"Check for Updates" from the Help Menu at some more convenient time. In
the past, Investor/RT would open the Quick Download center web page, now
the installer for your platform (Windows or OSX) will begin immediately.
This capability is not available in the Macintosh Classic version.
-
Object Editor Export Function
The object editor now has an Export button. Select all, one, or
several consecutive object names from the list of names and click
Export. Investor/RT will then prompt for the name of the text file with
the suggested name "export.txt". Definitions for each of the selected
objects and their dependent objects will be placed into the file you
specify. This feature enables you to create a bulk export containing
many object definitions that can be imported into another Investor/RT
system using the File: Import command. For example, you can easily
create an export definition file containing every one of your chart
setups and all of the indicator presets, signals, and other objects
referenced by those charts. Simply open the object editor, click the
"Charts" icon, click Select All, and click the Export button.
At present, exporting definitions via the Object Editor is available for
the following object types: Charts, Custom Columns, Custom Indicators,
Presets, Scans, Signals, Signal Actions, and Trading Orders. Export for
other objects will be added in future Investor/RT releases. The Export
button will be dimmed if the object editor is displaying lists of
objects for which the export function is not available.
The menu item: File: Import: Definition from File can be used to import
any text file containing one or more object definitions.
-
8.0 Rev 3
Miscellaneous Fixes and Improvements
-----------------------------------------
When importing a schedule definition, if the schedule of the same name
was aleady present, a fatal error would result. This has been corrected.
-----------------------------------------
When exporting schedules, charts presets for indicators, signals actions
and trading orders that are referenced by actions within the schedule
are exported as well.
-----------------------------------------
Instrument selectors, e.g. the selector in the QuickQuote window, now
support new quotepage related functions in the right-click menu.
Right-click on any symbol in the selectors and choose any of the three
choices in the QuotePage submenu. These menu choices enable you to add
or remove the selected symbol from any number of quotepages, or view a
list of quotepages that contain the selected symbol. These functions,
long available in the quotepage itself, are now supported from any
instrument selector window. Note that when the list of quotepages
appears you can add (or remove) the selected symbol from multiple
quotepages by shift-double-clicking the quotepage names one by one. The
shift key down while double-clicking tells Investor/RT to use the Apply
button (and leave the quotepage selection list open) rather than
dismissing the window after adding the instrument to the quotepage.
-----------------------------------------
The chart popup menu (right-click menu) has a new menu item in the "Add
To..." submenu for adding the selected chart instrument to a quotepage.
Right-click and choose Add To: Add Instrument to QuotePage and a list of
quotepage names will appear at the right side of the chart. Choose the
page and click OK or Apply to add the selected instrument to that page
(use double-click and shift-double-click shortcuts as described in the
preceding paragraph if you like). Note that if the chart has several
instruments in it, you may first select the one you wish to deal with by
clicking on its graph, otherwise the first instrument Investor/RT finds
in the chart will be used.
-----------------------------------------
Mouse Scroll Wheel support has been added to the List Selection windows
that are used throughout Investor/RT. For example, if you click the
"Open a Chart" button on the main toolbar you get a possibly long list
of chart names. You can type any letter to jump to the charts whose name
begins that begin with that letter. You can position your mouse pointer
on the ok button and then operate the scroll wheel to advance down the
list to the chart name you want to open and click ok to open the chart.
Mouse Wheel special handing can be turned on for this and other windows
types in Setup: Preferences: General. This feature is available only in
the MS Windows version of Investor/RT at this time (August 2005).

Industry
and Sector Downloading from Yahoo! Finance
Sector and Industry names for stocks can be downloaded from
Yahoo! Finance using the Data Download window. You can request the
download for individual stocks, or for all symbols in the .Stocks
quotepage, or any user defined quotepage of stocks. Each request for
sector and industry for a particular stock requires a connection to
Yahoo!, there is no "bulk request" for this information. Investor/RT
will skip any stocks in the subject quotepage that already have both
sector and industry names to avoid unnecessary downloading. If you have
hundreds of stocks setup in Investor/RT and you add a few new ones from
time to time, you can simply request industry and sector for your
.Stocks quotepage again and Investor/RT will quickly update just those
new stocks that do not yet have this information. You can of course show
Sector and Industry as columns in your quotepage. Investor/RT
Professional users can run scans to list stocks in certain sectors or
industries. For example:
SECTOR = "Technology" AND CL > CL.1;
INDUST = "*Software" AND CL > MA
If you wish to clear out any current information you have for sector and
industry you can easily do so by running the following scan on the
.Stocks quotepage:
SET(SECTOR, CLEAR);
Then perform the Yahoo! Sector and Industry download for the .Stocks
page to update all stocks you are tracking with Investor/RT. Allow
approximately 3 second times the number of stocks in .Stocks for this to
complete.
-
Miscellaneous Fixes and
Improvements
-----------------------------------------
A bug was fixed in Yahoo! current quote download that could cause a
fatal error when requesting current quotes for 200 or more symbols where
the symbols in question were longer symbols like Yahoo indexes or mutual
fund symbols.
-----------------------------------------
A bug was fixed in the new Pair Importing feature that would cause a
fatal error whenever a list of pairs involving more than 5 unique ticker
symbols.

Enhancements to
Price/Time Profile (TPO) Charts
New features include multi-day profiles (up to 40 days/sessions
can be combined into a single profile). Up to 29 Profiles/Days can be
shown simultaneously side-by-side in a given chart. For complete
details, including screen shots and setup instructions, see this page on
the Linn Software web site:
http://www.linnsoft.com/tour/tpo.htm
-
Sounds and Signal Actions
This enhancement is designed to make setup of trendlines, reference
lines, and signal markers easier for those who simply want to have a
sound played when a signal triggers or a line break occurs. The
Reference Line, Trendline, and Signal Marker technical indicators all
have an "action" setup that specifies tbe name of a "Signal Action" that
is to be executed when the trendline or reference line break occurs, or
when the signal marker's signal triggers on the current bar. Signal
actions can be setup in Investor/RT to perform one or more functions,
including playing a particular sound, issuing an alert message, or even
executing a trading order. In many cases, however, a signal action that
does nothing more than play an alert sound is needed. The extra step of
creating a new signal action to play the sound can be tedious or even
confusing to new Investor/RT users who may not be familiar with signal
actions.
As a convenience, Investor/RT now adds pre-defined "Play Sound" signal
actions for every sound to the list of signal actions. Each of these
signal actions have names of the form "Play X" where X is a sound name.
All of the automatically added sound-only signal actions are listed
after the user-defined signal actions in list. The new signal actions
are added automatically when you upgrade Investor/RT from Version 8.0 or
earlier to Version 8.0 Rev 1 or later. If you do not wish to use these
new signal actions, you may easily remove them using the Object Editor
(Control: Data Management: Object Editor: Signal Actions). Select any or
all of the "Play X" signal action names that you wish to delete, and
click the "Delete" button. If, at some later time, you wish to add them
back again, or if you should add new sounds to Investor/RT in the
future, you may use the Setup: Preferences: Sounds window to assure that
all sounds have an associated signal action. Open the Sound Preferences,
check the box titled "Create Signal Actions for each Sound..." and click
Apply or OK.
-
Custom
Instrument (Pairs) Setup Using an Import File
The File: Import: Ticker Symbols feature of Investor/RT has been
enhanced to support import and automatic setup of custom instrument
pairs. The text file to be imported should have a line with the command:
/TYPE PAIR
followed by lines of text that describe the pairs, e.g.
/TYPE PAIR
AMZN,YAHOO
KO,PEP
To learn more about this feature, visit the Linn Software web site at:
http://www.linnsoft.com/qa/a/83.htm
The import text files can be prepared using any text editor or
Investor/RT itself. To create a new import file using Investor/RT, use
File: New: Text file. Investor/RT will respond with an empty text
window. Enter the /TYPE PAIR command followed by the lines of text for
each pair you wish to create. Then use File: Save: Save and name the
text file. Then use File: Import: Ticker Symbols to import the file.
-
Current Quotes
Downloading from Yahoo! Finance
Item #13 and #23 above describe downloading of Daily historical
data and fundamental data for equities from Yahoo! Finance. A third
Yahoo! download function has been added to acquire "Current Quotes" for
a symbol or list of symbols in some quotepage. Downloading of current
quotes from Yahoo! can be scheduled using the "Download Data" action in
Setup: Schedules. Choose "Yahoo! Finance Current Quotes" as the data
server selection. The Current quote download presently requests up to
200 symbols at a time from Yahoo! Finance. If you request current quotes
on a page containing more than 200 instruments, Investor/RT will issue
multiple requests of 200 each to update all stocks and indexes in the
source quotepage quickly. The Yahoo! current quote download support
open, high, low, last trade and volume. Bid and Ask are also acquired if
available. The Investor/RT data column "Feed Time" is updated with the
time of the last trade price provided by Yahoo!
-
Unbounded Stochastic
A checkbox has been added to the Stochastic indicator
preferences. When checked, the RawK values are allowed to go outside the
0 to 100 boundaries imposed by the standard stochastic indicator. The
RawK is computed as a relative position of the closing price within the
range of the "previous" n bars (n being the RawK period). The only
difference being that the range of the unbounded stochastics does not
consider the current bar, thus allowing the close to go outside of that
range. The standard stochastic indicator includes the current high and
low in it's calculation of that range, thus never allowing the closing
price to exceed the bounds of that range (since it must lie between the
high and low of current bar). The difference between the calculations
can be seen in the expressions below:
Standard Stochastic
Raw %K = 100 * [CL - MIN(LO, n)] / [MAX(HI, n) - MIN(LO, n)]
Unbounded Stochastic
Raw %K = 100 * [CL - MIN(LO.1, n)] / [MAX(HI.1, n) - MIN(LO.1, n)]
The unbounded stochastic provides additional information as to the
strength of the move/trend that the standard stochastic can often hide.
The unbounded option makes it easy to spot strong breakouts with values
below 0 or above 100.

New Chart Button Purpose: Execute Trade Order/Trading Order Group
Chart Buttons were enhanced so that a button can be assigned the purpose
of "Execute Trading Order". There is no point in setting up a "Signal
Action" that in turn executes a particular trading order if that is all
the signal action will do. A signal action IS required to execute a
trading order if you want the trading order executed when some kind of
signal (alert) occurs, e.g. a trend line or reference line penetration
or a signal marker triggering event. But for manually clicking buttons
in the chart, it is more straightforward to simply setup the button to
execute the trading order directly. Once a trading order button is
created you may wish to inspect the trading order associated with the
button. To edit the button, right-click on the button and choose
"Edit..". The name of the trading order will be shown in the button
setup. You may click "Edit" again there to see the trading order setup.
A shortcut method is available that avoids this two-step edit process.
In the chart, hold down the ctrl key while clicking on a button and
Investor/RT will take you immediately to the associated trading order.
On Macintosh, use option-click instead. This ctrl-click shortcut works
with all buttons that have an associated "preset", all technical
indicator toggle buttons, signal actions, and trading orders can be
edited this way.
Like other button types, trading order buttons can, be setup as menu
buttons containing as many trading order presets as you wish. Thus you
can create trading order presets with appropriate names for all of the
typical trading order you use and have every one of these orders
available in the chart in a single menu button. Trading order menu
buttons use the "Place a Trade" icon that appears in the Investor/RT
main toolbar and elsewhere.
A second new button purpose, Execute Trading Order Group, allows you to
create push buttons (not menus at present) that execute a group of
trading orders at once. Specify the name of the group. A new group type,
called a trading order group can be created using File: New: Group. You
can then use the Object Editor window (see item #20 below) to add
trading orders to such a group.
-
Convenience Functions for Creating Signal Action and Trading Order
Buttons
When viewing or editing the setup of any signal action or trading
order, the "Presets" menu at the bottom of the window can now be used to
quickly create buttons with the purpose of executing the Signal Action
and/or Trading Order. Click on Presets and choose "Send to Chart as
Button". This menu item essentially creates a new preset for the signal
action or trading order (using a name that you provide) and then creates
a chart button to execute that named preset.
-
Keyboard Shortcuts for Signal Actions and Trading Orders
The keyboard shortcut facility of Investor/RT was enhanced to
enable keyboard shortcuts to be defined to "Execute" either a signal
action or a trading order. To setup a keyboard shortcut, click the Setup
Preferences button on the main toolbar and choose Keyboard Shortcuts. In
the Keyboard Shortcut window, choose "Execute" as the action, and either
Signal Action or Trading Order as the object type to execute. A list of
preset Signal Actions or Trading Order will then appear for selection.
Preset Signal Actions or Trading Orders can be created using the Setup:
Preferences: Technical Indicators window. A new shortcut, Alt-T (Apple-T
on Macintosh) has been added to get you there quickly. Alt-T opens up
the technical indicator default preferences for "Trading Order". You can
click "Signal Action" at the left of the window if you wish to setup
signal action presets. New presets are created using the "New" command
in the Presets menu button at the bottom of the window. First setup the
preferences the way you want, then click on Presets and choose "New".
You can view any existing presets by clicking Presets and choosing from
the "Load" submenu.
- New
RTL function REF
The STAT indicator in the RTL language can find how many bars
have occurred since a minimum or maximum value occurred. Sometimes it is
desirable to find the value of some formula N bars ago where N is the
number of bars ago that a maximum or minimum value of some other formula
occurred. A simple example would be a custom indicator that shows the
high of the bar at which the lowest low in the trailing 20 periods
occurred. This can be accomplished using a new function named REF (REF
stands for Reference). The REF function takes two arbitrary expressions
as parameters. The first expression is a formula for the value to be
referenced, the second expression is a formula that yields how many bars
ago to reference the formula value. For example, the custom indicator:
REF( (HI+LO)/2, STAT + 1);
Where STAT is setup to find the minimum low in say 20 period with the
resulting value of "Bars since that minimum value" occurred. THis
formula will show you the midpoint price of the bar having the lowest
low in the preceding 20 periods.
RTL supports V# variables that control how many bars back to reference
the value of a token. For example the expression HI.V#1 where V#1
happens to be 5 for some instrument is equivalent to HI.5. The formula
REF(HI, V#1) does the same thing. The advantage of the REF function is
that both the first and second expressions inside the REF's parentheses
be formulas of any complexity, not limited to individual tokens or V#
variables.

Setup Instruments Enhancement
The Setup Instruments Window (Alt-A) has a "?" button just to the
right of the ticker symbol entry box. A click on this button opens a
ticker selection window. If you have typed in part of a ticker symbol
already before you click this button, the instrument selection window
positions itself alphabetically on the first matching symbol and
"completes" the ticker for you automatically in the Setup: Instruments
window. You may of course continue typing or using the arrow keys to
pick a different symbol and then press the return key, or you may use
the mouse to scroll and pick the symbol you want by double-clicking it.
For those who do not wish to take their hands off the keyboard, a new
mouse-less method is available. Start by pressing Alt-A (Command-A on
Macintosh) to open the Setup: Instruments window. The text entry cursor
will be positioned inside the empty "ticker symbol" box. Type any
initial characters followed by a question mark. For example, to lookup
an IBM option you could type in IB?. When Investor/RT "sees" the ? it
will open the instrument selection window and position the list on the
first instrument ticker that begins with the letters IB. You may then
arrow down to the ticker you want, select it by pressing return.
Investor/RT will dismiss the instrument selector, leaving the Setup:
Instruments window filled in with the properties of the chosen symbol.
If you type a ? as the first and only character in the ticker entry box,
the instrument selector will appear positioned at the top. Begin typing
the first few letters of the ticker symbol you want. When you see the
ticker highlighted in the selection window, press return.
Bottom line: when typing into the ticker entry box in the Setup:
Instruments window you may enter a ? at any time to invoke the
instrument selector without taking your hands off the keyboard. Any
characters you have entered preceding the ? will be used to complete the
ticker symbol if possible.
-
Chart Window Ticker Symbol
Entry
Traditional chart windows now have a ticker symbol entry box in
the lower left corner just above the chart name. The entry box may be
used to quickly switch the chart to a different ticker symbol. Click in
the entry box; you will see a blinking text cursor. This indicates that
the entry box has "focus" and is ready for your input. Type in the
ticker symbol (Investor/RT will auto-capitalize) and press the tab key
or the enter/return key to complete the entry. The chart will update;
the previously charted ticker symbol will be replaced by the new one.
The entry box is cleared after a successful substitution, ready to
accept a new ticker. You may enter symbols in rapid succession to call
up a series charts very quickly this way.
If you prefer to use the classic method of "typing the ticker" blindly
into the chart, first click inside the chart window. This will ensure
that the blinking cursor is removed from the ticker entry box. As you
begin typing, the classic "Update/Replace Chart" dialog will appear to
assist you in identifying the ticker symbol you want. The Update/Replace
Chart dialog has a standard instrument selector and other chart setup
options, such as "multi-linking".
The new ticker symbol entry box offers a convenient way to add new
symbols to Investor/RT and chart them in one step. Type a new ticker
symbol and press tab or return. If necessary, Investor/RT will issue a
prompting message informing you that the ticker you entered is not yet
setup. You can click an Add button to add and chart the symbol
immediately, or click the Setup button to open the Setup: Instruments
window. Clicking the Add button causes the new ticker symbol
(instrument) to be added and that new instrument is inserted into the
chart. If you have the auto-downloading option turn on, Investor/RT will
request historical data for the new symbol and the chart will fill in
automatically. Otherwise, press the Data Download button in the lower
right corner to request historical data for charting for the newly added
symbol. When entering a new symbol this way you may use "ticker:
exchange: session" notation or simply enter the ticker by itself. For
example, entering ES`U:AUTO:31 will add ES`U as a new instrument and
assign it to session number 32. AUTO (automatic) is commonly used as the
exchange code in Investor/RT. Enter ESM5:GLOBEX:31 to setup the ticker
symbol ESM5, assign it to session 31, and give it an override exchange
id of GLOBEX.
If you click "Setup" when prompted to add a new symbol, the Setup:
Instruments window will appear with the new ticker symbol filled in. You
may then setup the session, display format, and other instrument
properties before adding the symbol. When the Setup: Instrument window
closes, you will notice that the newly defined ticker symbol is still
present in the chart's ticker symbol entry box. Press the tab or
enter/return key to chart the new symbol.
From time to time, the focus may shift away from the ticker symbol entry
box. For example, if you click on a chart button or select an indicator
in the chart for editing, the blinking cursor in the ticker symbol entry
box will disappear and the focus for keyboard activity will return to
the chart itself. When the focus in on the chart, you can, for example,
press the <tab> key repeatedly to tab through your indicators, or you
can press the space bar to download data, or you can begin typing a
ticker and the Update dialog will appear to assist you. When you want to
use the ticker entry box and you notice that the focus is not present in
the entry box (no blinking cursor), you can direct focus to the ticker
entry box by typing a forward slash character. For example, if the
keyboard focus is on the chart window itself, quickly type the five
characters /IBM<tab>. The / will direct the focus to the ticker entry
box which will then receive the next three characters IBM. The tab (or
return key) after that will substitute IBM into the chart. Normally when
you complete the entry of ticker symbol and press tab or return,
Investor/RT will substitute the new ticker into the chart and leave the
focus on the ticker symbol cell. However, if the ticker you enter has no
historical data and you have automatic downloading option on, then the
downloading and refreshing of the chart window leaves the keyboard focus
on the chart window rather than the ticker entry box. Typing a slash
before your next ticker will assure that the characters you type after
the slash are put into the ticker symbol entry box. Note that if focus
(blinking cursor) is in the ticker entry box and you type a slash, the
slash will be entered into the box like any other character. Typing the
slash is just a shortcut you can issue from the keyboard without having
to take your hands off the keyboard to use the mouse to click inside the
ticker entry box to set the keyboard focus there.
If you prefer not to have the ticker entry box in your chart windows,
uncheck the "Ticker Symbol Entry Box" check box in Setup: Preferences:
Charts: General. This is a global chart setting. The entry box is either
present or not in all traditional chart windows.

Checking for Software Updates
The "Check for Updates" command in the Help menu will inform you
whether you are running the latest publicly available release of
Investor/RT. If a new version of Investor/RT is available for
downloading a message will appear to that effect. Click the "Update"
response button for this message and your web browser will open the
Investor/RT Quick Download web page. Click to download the latest update
installer for your platform.
The "Check for Updates" command requires an active Internet connection.
Setup: Preferences: Mail & Internet has a check box titled "Check for
Updates". This box is checked by default. When checked. Investor/RT will
automatically inform you if a new version of the software is available
when you startup. If you leave Investor/RT running all the time, the
check for updates will be done at some random time between midnight and
1 a.m. local time. You will not be notified of any pre-release
candidates or beta test releases, only final release versions that are
listed on the Quick Download Center web page at www.linnsoft.com/dl.
The "Check for Updates" command may be setup to run as part of a
schedule. See Setup: Schedules. For example, you could turn off the
"Check for Updates" check box in the Mail and Internet Preferences and
create a schedule that runs once a week every Friday after the close to
check for new software updates.

Automated
Methods for Creating Custom Columns
Investor/RT supports various automated methods for quickly adding
scans, signals, custom indicators, and technical indicators as custom
columns. When you right-click on a technical indicator in a chart, for
example, choose "Send to QuotePage" and the indicator in question will
appear instantly as a custom column in the front quotepage. You must
have a quotepage open, of course. If several quotepages are open, the
front most quotepage will receive the custom column. The custom column
for the technical indicator will be computed using the same periodicity
as the technical indicator in the chart. Investor/RT creates the custom
column automatically. If the Investor/RT suggested name for the custom
column is already in use, you will be prompted to enter a new name or
replace for former custom column.
The Send To Quotepage command is also available in the RTL Setup Window.
When setting up signals and custom indicators, click the "Send To..."
button at the lower right of the window, choose "Send to Quotepage" from
the ensuing pop up menu. The signal or custom indicator will be added as
a custom column to the front quotepage. Since signal and scan setups do
not have a periodicity (they are periodicity independent), Investor/RT
uses the periodicity of the front chart window as the periodicity of the
newly created custom column. Daily periodicity is the default in case no
chart window is open.
The "Send To..." button is a new feature in Investor/RT Version 8. See
the following What's New item for more information.

Automated Methods
for Adding Signal Markers
Custom Indicators, Paint Bars, and Color Markers to Charts. The
RTL Setup window has a "Send To..." button when the window to being used
to create signals and custom indicators. Clicking on this button pops up
a menu for sending the particular scan or custom indicator either to a
quotepage (as a custom column) or to a chart as an indicator. In prior
versions of Investor/RT, a signal could be sent to the chart only as a
signal marker. The Send To... menu button now enables the signal to sent
to the chart as a Paint Bar indicator or a Color Marker indicator as
well. For custom indicators, the "Chart" button of earlier releases of
Investor/RT is replaced by the Send To menu button, enabling the custom
indicator to be sent to chart as an indicator, a Paint Bars indicator,
or as a Color Marker indicator.
In the RTL Setup Window for Custom Indicators the pop up menu provides
these choices:
Chart - Custom Indicator
Chart - Color Marker
Chart - Paint Bars/Background
Chart - Horizontal Line
QuotePage - Custom Column
Custom Prices
In the RTL Setup Window for Trading Signals, the pop up menu provides
these choices:
Chart - Signal Marker
Chart - Color Marker
Chart - Paint Bars/Background
QuotePage - Custom Column
These options provide a convenient way to quickly add custom indicators
or signals to charts or quotepages. Custom indicators can be added to
charts as any of 4 technical indicators: custom indicator, color marker,
paint bars, or horizontal reference line. Similarly, signals can be
added to charts as signal markers, color marker, or paint bars. Both
custom indicators and signals can be added to quotepages as custom
columns by choosing the "QuotePage - Custom Column". In each case,
multiple setup steps have been reduced to a single menu selection.
When choosing any of the "chart" options, the chosen technical indicator
will be added to the front most chart. If there is no chart open at the
time, the "default" chart will be used. After the indicator is added to
the appropriate chart, the chart will be brought to the front, and the
indicators preferences will be presented. Make any changes to the
indicator preferences (if needed) and then click "Enter" to dismiss the
window and view your charted indicator. If you prefer not to see the
preference window, simply hold down the shift key when making your
selection from the pop up menu.
"Send To Chart" Button in Trading System Window
The "Chart System" button now appears as the "Send to Chart" button, and
the action taken when this button is clicked has been modified. This
button now takes the trading system and adds it to the front most window
as a Trading System Indicator. If there is no chart open at the time,
the "default" chart will be used. After the indicator is added to the
appropriate chart, the chart will be brought to the front, and the
indicators preferences will be presented. Make any changes to the
trading system indicator preferences (if needed) and then click "Enter"
to dismiss the window and view your charted system. If you prefer not to
see the preference window, simply hold down the shift key while clicking
on the "Send to Chart" button.

Last N Days
Scaling Option for Traditional Charts
The option, "Last X Days", has been added to the vertical scaling
preferences for traditional charts. This option allows the user to
specify automatic scaling based on any number of the most recent days in
the chart. For instance, if "Last 1 Days" is specified, the chart
automatically scales to the current day's trading range. This option is
built into the range based scaling option. To access this option,
double-click (or right-click) in the vertical scale area of any pane to
bring up the vertical scale preferences for that pane. Check the third
scaling option and select "Automatic" scaling based on "Last X Days".
Specify the number of days to use for scaling in the box to the right.
At present, there is a limit of 98 days for this scaling option. This
scaling option should work for any periodicity, including daily, tick
bar, 20-minute, etc.

Downloading
Historical Data from Yahoo Finance
The Data Download window "Source Menu" lists "Yahoo Finance" as a
source for retrieving daily, weekly, or monthly historical data from the
Yahoo Finance web site. End-of-Day users of Investor/RT who are
following relatively few instruments will find this a convenience and
reliable source of historical data. The latest daily bar data from Yahoo
updates quotepages, portfolios, etc. Historical downloading from Yahoo
is also available in the free demonstration version of Investor/RT so
that evaluators of the Investor/RT product may update daily, weekly,
monthly charts of the Dow Jones 30 Industrial stocks setup in the
demonstration version.

New Chart
Button for Removing Indicators by Type
Chart buttons may be added with purpose "Remove Indicators". This
button purpose supports both push button and menu buttons. The setup for
a "Remove Indicators" button specifies an indicator "type" code, e.g. MA
for moving average indicators, TLINE for trend line indicators. The user
does not need to know these codes off-hand, just select the indicator
from the list of descriptive names in the menu and the setup will be
updated to show the indicator type code for the one(s) you select. When
you click on the push button or choose one of the indicator types from
the menu button's pop up menu, Investor/RT will remove all of the
indicators of that particular type from the pane where the button is
located. This feature was designed for those who frequently draw many
trend lines, reference lines, or fib retracements, in their charts as
trading progresses. These buttons provide a way to quickly clear the
pane of all trend lines, for example, without eliminating any of the
other kinds of indicators present in the pane.
-
New Order
Desk for AutoTrader/Interactive Brokers
Setup: Preferences: Order Desk can be used to specify
AutoTrader/Interactive Brokers as your preferred order desk. Thereafter,
clicking the Place Trade button on the main toolbar (keyboard shortcut
Alt-L) will open the AT/IB order desk window. The order desk window
presents a list of your trading order presets and a list of the ticker
symbols in your "Trading List" quotepage. You can select a trading order
and a symbol and then view the order's description in the text box to
the right. Buttons are provided for editing the selected trading order
or creating new trading order presets. This window dynamically updates
to show the current bid, ask, and last trade and sizes for the selected
symbol. Trading orders with limit or stop prices expressed as V#
variables will update dynamically as V# values are updated/recalculated.
Orders may be sent to AutoTrader using the Send button. A find box is
also provided for entering a search pattern. Investor/RT will respond by
listing the trading orders that match that pattern. For example, the
pattern text *buy will list only trading order that contain the text
"buy" in their trading order preset name. If you have a stop or limit
trading order with "Mouse Click" as the limit or stop price, sending the
order will cause the intra-day chart for the symbol in question to
appear prompting for limit or stop price selection. Click the mouse at
the price level you wish and select the actual limit or stop price from
the ensuing pop up menu. Limit/Stop price selection via menu is exactly
the same as if the order had been placed directed from within that chart
via chart or trading signal for example.

Yahoo Finance Stock Screener
The Stock Screener requests symbol lists from the Yahoo Finance
Stock Screener web site (screen.yahoo.com/stocks.html). Use Setup:
Screen to access this feature. Currently, the screening criteria are
limited to price and average volume. Additional criteria will be added
over time. The Yahoo! database of stocks includes over 8600 stocks from
the Nasdaq, NYSE, and AMEX exchanges. A check box labeled “Exclude OTC
BB (.OB) and Other OTC (.PK) Stocks” excludes any stocks considered OTC
BB (with .OB endings) and “Other OTC” (with .PK endings) from the
results. Screen setups can be named and saved for future reference. Once
the criteria have been specified, click the “Screen” button. Investor/RT
connects to Yahoo! with your screen request. When Yahoo! responds, the
user is presented with the number of stocks that were found. You may
proceed to import those symbols or cancel. The retrieval process will
take approximately 3 to 4 seconds 20 symbols. The user can cancel the
process at any time by clicking the cancel button.

Custom Column Action
Enhancement
The rules of a custom column can specify actions to be performed
when the rule is evaluated as true. These actions includes opening a
chart window, playing a particular sound, or running a schedule that in
turn performs the prescribed scheduled actions. The way custom column
rules trigger these actions has been revised and an automatic reset
option has been added.
Four options have been made available for controlling frequency of
triggering of actions associated with custom column rules. The options
include "Whenever Rule Becomes True", "Whenever Rule Is True", "First
Time Rule Is True", and "Never". Each rule can have up to three actions
associated with it, including playing a sound, opening a chart, or
running a schedule (colors and custom text are not considered actions
and are updated each time the custom column calculates). In previous
versions, once a rules actions had triggered once, they would never
trigger again (unless manually reset). Also in previous versions, once
any rules actions had triggered, no actions for any of the rules would
trigger again. This has also been enhanced to evaluate each rule
independently.
These new options are made available in the Custom Column Setup window
via a listbox at the bottom of the "Calculation" tab. The four options
work as follows:
- "Whenever Rule Becomes True"
This is a new option and is likely to be a very common choice. When this
option is chosen, each rule will trigger it's action(s) every time the
rule becomes true (when it was false on previous evaluation). Now,
looking at each rule independently, with this option turned on, each
time a rule becomes false, it's actions are reset and will run again
when the rule becomes true. When a rule first evaluates as true, it's
actions will be triggered. However, as the rule continues to evaluate as
true, actions will not be triggered until the rule returns to a false
state before again becoming true.
- "Whenever Rule Is True"
This is also a new option. When this option is chosen, a rules actions
will trigger each time the rule evaluates to true (regardless of the
previous state of the rule). If a rule continues to evaluate to true,
then it's actions will continue to trigger each time it's recalculated.
The frequency of calculation (for all options) is controlled by the
"Calculate Column Every ___" setting which is also located in the
"Calculation" tab of the Custom Column setup window.
- "First Time Rule Is True"
This is the way rule actions were triggered in prior releases. When this
option is checked, each rule will only trigger it's action(s) once, the
first time it evaluates to true. There are a number of ways to reset the
column however (both manually and automatically), and these are
discussed later in this text.
- "Never"
This option is self-explanatory. Users might consider this option when
they want to temporarily turn off their rule actions for a whatever
reason.
Regardless of which triggering option is chosen, each rule is now
evaluated independently. In prior releases, this was not the case. If a
custom column had multiple rules (each with their own action or
actions), once any of those rules become true and triggered it's
actions, neither that rule, nor any other rule, would trigger again.
Now, each rule is completely independent.
With combinations of many symbols, many custom columns, and many rules,
it can be overwhelming trying to keep up with which rules triggered for
which symbols and when. For this reason, an option is now available to
automatically add a message to the Alarm Log (File: Open: Alarm Log)
each time a rule's actions are triggered (based on the logic discussed
in two paragraphs above). This message is a single line providing the
time, symbol, rule, and custom column name. In addition, if the rule is
setup to show custom text (using "Text" column in Rules tab), that text
will also be shown in the line (just following the symbol). The format
for the line is:
hh:mm ss Symbol {CustomText} Rule CustomColumnName
For example:
14:33 25 LU >= 80 CCI_CC
14:35 38 ELN <= -80 CCI_CC
14:38 23 MSFT >= 80 CCI_CC
The examples above did not involve any custom text. If custom text of
"Sell" were present, the line might look like:
15:05 47 YHOO Sell <= -90 CCI_CC
So now, by setting up each custom columns rule with a custom sound, the
user can be alerted that the rule has triggered on some symbol(s), and
can take a look at the Alarm Log to see exactly which symbol or symbols
(along with the column and rule) triggered the sound. The user can view
the custom column at any time to evaluate the current conditions of any
symbol, and the Alarm Log to see how and when it got there.
A "Log" column is now available in the Rules spreadsheet to allow the
user to turn logging on or off for any given rule. Each rule has a value
of "Yes" or "No" in the logging column. Simply click on the column to
toggle the value between "Yes" and "No". Logging will default to "Yes"
for newly added rules. Any rules setup prior to this release will have
logging turned off.
Several modifications were made to the Alarm Log itself. First, the
filename of the Alarm Log changed from "Alarm Log" (with no extension)
to "alarmlog.txt". The file remains in the "Admin" folder. Also, it was
enhanced to operate similar to the Message Log in a variety of ways.
When the Alarm Log is initially opened, it is automatically scrolled to
the bottom/end of the file (where the newest message lines are added).
Whenever the file is scrolled to the bottom, the file will continue to
be auto-scrolled to the bottom as new message arrive (and are appended
to bottom). This allows the user to view the messages as they are
appended to the file, without having to scroll down each time. If the
file is not scrolled to the bottom, then the user is in complete control
and the file will not be auto-scrolled as new messages arrive. To return
the Log to auto-scrolling state, just scroll down to the bottom again.
If the user would also for custom column rules to send their information
to the Message Log, or to be displayed in a popup window, this can be
accomplished using the "Show Message" action of schedules. The text of
the "Show Message" action can now reference %CCTICKER, %CCRULE, or %CCNAME
to access the ticker, rule, and custom column name that triggered the
schedule. If the "Schedule requires an OK to continue" checkbox is
checked in the "Show Message" action window, then the message will
appear in a popup window. If unchecked, the message will be sent to the
Message Log window. A schedule should be created with an action of "Show
Message", and with message text something like:
CC: %CCTICKER %CCRULE %CCNAME
And the custom column rule should be setup with this schedule in the
schedule column.

Broker Alias Ticker Symbol
Each instrument (ticker symbol) in Investor/RT now has two alias
symbols. The download alias is the alias ticker symbol that will be used
when retrieving historical data from a historical data service in cases
where the historical service uses a ticker other than the instrument
ticker. This alias ticker has been a feature of Investor/RT for many
years for users of Dial/Data. The download alias is also necessary for
some instruments when using the IB version of Investor/RT since this
version uses the DTN Market Access historical service. THe instrument
ticker symbol will in this case be the IB local symbol used for
real-time data monitoring, while the download alias will be used when
retrieving historical data from DTN servers. The download alias ticker
can be viewed and edited in quotepage using the Alias data column or you
can specify the download alias symbol in the Setup: Instruments window
(in the Advanced Settings Section).
The second alias symbol is the Broker symbol. With Investor/RT trading
order integration with InterActive Brokers, uses of other realtime data
sources (eSignal, DTN.IQ, myTrack, Quote.com) need an alias for
conveying the IB symbol in trading orders. For equities trading orders,
the instrument ticker will typically be the same as the IB broker
symbol, but for other security types such a futures contracts, the
broker alias will be used when transmitting trading orders to IB. The
Broker alias symbol can for each instrument can be viewed or edited in a
quotepage using the "Broker Symbol" data column. The Broker alias may
also be setup in the Setup: Instruments window (in the Advanced Settings
Section).
-
Object Editor Window
The Object Editor Windows (formerly known as the
"Edit/Delete/Rename" window) has been enhanced to support four new
object types: (1) Trading Orders (2) Signal Actions (3) Optimizations
(4) Realizations. Trading Orders and Signal Actions are special cases of
indicator presets that are now listed in the Object Type menu at the top
of the window. Choose Trading Orders, for example, and a list of all
trading order (presets) will be shown. You may then delete, rename, view
and edit the trading orders. Note that renaming trading orders does not
automatically adjust all of the buttons that may refer to the former
trading order name. The Object Editor window has a key role in setting
up groups of objects. You can select any object and add it to a group by
clicking the Add to Group button. For trading orders, there is a special
new group type called a Trading Order group. A trading order group is a
group containing only trading order presets for a set of orders that can
be submitted to the broker simultaneously. Trading order groups can be
executed either from the IB / AutoTrader Order Desk window or by
clicking a button in a chart window (where the button is setup to
execute a particular named group of trading orders).

New RTL Tokens for Trading
Feedback
New Tokens have been added to RTL to provide access to brokerage
position related information when using the new trading order features
of Investor/RT. When trading orders are sent to Interactive Brokers (via
AutoTrader), Investor/RT will monitor the status of those trading orders
and when Investor/RT receive a fill notification, it will record the
status of the user's position. The new RTL tokens are TR_FILL (the
latest fill price for the instrument), TR_POS (the position size,
positive for long, negative for short, zero for no position open),
TR_TARG and TR_STOP (target and stop prices for AutoTrader Managed
positions, are not yet implemented). These new tokens may be used in
trading signals to make signal firing dependent upon the state of the
trade. For example, a custom column in a quotepage could calculate a
stop or target price based on the TR_FILL price and record that value in
a V# when in turn can be used to submit target or stop orders at that V#
price level. The TR_FILL token yields the same value as the ENTRY token,
and the TR_POS yields the same value as the POS_SIZE token, EXCEPT when
the signals are executing under a trading system indicator, since ENTRY
and POS_SIZE are set by the trading system. We recommend that TR_FILL
and TR_POS be used as these token refer specifically and unambiguously
to the results reported to Investor/RT by the trading order status
feedback from the brokerage.

New Order Desk for
IB/AutoTrader Trading
The Place Trade button on the main toolbar opens a user-specified
order desk window. By default, this order desk is the Investor/RT
Portfolio order desk, a window for opening and closing positions in any
Investor/RT portfolios. Investor/RT Users who will be trading with
InterActive Brokers via the new AutoTrader/IB trading orders features of
Investor/RT, can now use the new AutoTrader/IB Order Desk window. To
activate this order desk in place of the Investor/RT Portfolio order
desk, go to Setup: Preferences: Order Desk, and specify "AutoTrader/IB
Order Desk" as the one to use for Stocks and Futures trading. The AT/IB
Order Desk lists all user-define trading orders and symbols in your
"Trading List" quotepage. You can easily use this window to create new
trading orders, edit existing order, and submit trading orders to IB by
simply choosing the order and the symbol and clicking Send. The AT/IB
Order Desk support individual orders as well as groups of orders. When
you select an order, its description appears to the right; when you
select a trading order group name the names of the trading orders in the
group appear to the right. The order desk is "live", giving you
continuous updates on last trade price, bid/ask and sizes for the
selected symbol. For users with many trading orders, a convenient search
feature is available, just type in a few letters to see those orders
with names beginning with those letters; type in * to see all orders;
type in * followed by some letters to see a list of trading orders
having those letters anywhere within the name. A list of common patterns
is available by clicking the mouse on the menu disclosure arrow, e.g.
choose *buy to see all orders having the word buy anywhere in the order
name. The AT/IB Order Desk window is sizable.

Schedule Definition
Export and Import
The File: Export and File: Import menus now provide for exporting
and importing schedule definitions. File: Export: Schedule Definition
will prompt you with a list of schedule names. Pick the one to export
and click OK. You can export all of your schedules by clicking the "All"
button instead. File: Import: Schedule Definition will prompt for the
file to import. If you receive a schedule definition as text in an email
you can copy it to the clipboard and use File: Import: Definition from
Clipboard to import it. When importing a schedule you will be prompted
if the schedule name already exists. You can replace the existing
schedule, cancel the import, or choose "New Name" and Investor/RT will
import the schedule by appending a number to the existing name to make
the name unique. All imported schedules are marked as "Inactive" as a
precaution. Schedules can do just about anything in Investor/RT so it is
a good idea to review the action list for the imported schedule before
enabling it to be run on your system. Inactivated schedules appear in
the Setup: Schedules window with an asterisk prefixed to the schedule
name. To activate (enable) an inactivated schedule, ctrl-double-click on
the schedule name, or simply edit the schedule and uncheck the
"Inactive" checkbox. Macintosh users option-double-click to toggle a
schedule between active and inactive status. Exported schedules can make
reference via their scheduled actions to other Investor/RT objects, e.g.
charts, scans, quotepages, indicator presets, trading systems, etc. At
present, exporting a schedule will export scans referenced by actions
within the schedule. The automatic export of other dependent objects
will be added in subsequent releases of Investor/RT. In the meantime,
the user must manually export any dependent charts, quotepages, etc. and
send those definitions along with the schedule definition to the
intended recipient.

Setup: Futures Improvements
The Setup: Futures window has been improved to make it easier to
select the type of futures contracts you wish to add. The button menu at
the top of the window still has a list of futures contract names
suffixed with the future code, e.g. "US 10Year Treasury Note ZN". With
so many future types to choose from the selection of the contract type
can be tedious, especially when you "know" already that you want to ZN's.
At the bottom left of the window there is a text entry box with a menu
attached that lists all of the futures contract types alphabetically by
type code rather than name. This selection list may be use to select the
contract you want, or you can simply enter the letters directly into the
box, e.g. type in zb and Investor/RT will set the window to the correct
type for producing the symbols you want to track with Investor/RT. Just
to the right of the future code entry box is the "Setup Type" button. If
you enter a future type that Investor/RT does not have in its database
of future types, click this button to open a window for setting up
futures types. Send an e-mail to
support@linnsoft.com to report any future types that you would like
to see added to the database. This will help us to know which future
types are commonly used so we can add them to the Investor/RT database
in future releases of the Investor/RT software.

Using Reference Line to
Monitor Trades
Improvements have been made to the Reference Line indicator to
facilitate monitoring of fill price, stop price and target price when a
trade is active. You may create reference lines in a chart that are
associated with these values by using the menu of "V#1, Other" price
types in the Reference Line setup. These reference lines have a special
property; they will only appear in the chart when a position is active
for the charted instrument. When you submit a trading order and it is
filled, Investor/RT establishes the position size and fill price. If you
have a "Fill Price" Reference Line in a chart of that instrument, it
will pop into view when the trading order is filled. Reference Lines for
stop and target prices work similarly. The stop and target prices can
established by submitting a "Get AT Position Info" trading order.
AutoTrader responds to this trading order with the current AutoTrader
established stop and target prices for the managed position. When the
stop and target prices are established, Reference Lines associated with
these price values will appear in the chart. When the position is closed
(TR_POS becomes 0), the lines will no longer appear in the chart. The
Stop and Target Reference Lines work best with AutoTrader managed
trading. User who use AutoTrader passthru orders for trading via
Interactive Brokers can use these reference lines but there must be some
mechanism in place to "SET" the values of TR_STOP and TR_TARG, the RTL
tokens for these values. For example, a TSYS (Trading System) Indicator
operating in a chart could have rules that decide when to raise a
trailing stop and setup the rules to perform a SET(TR_TARG, expression)
to establish the new target price. The Target Reference Line in the
chart will automatically adjust to show the newly computed target price.

Overnight Session
Holiday Improvements
Traditional charting of overnight traded instruments has long
been problematic on days immediately following a trading holiday. The
recent July 4th holiday was no exception. Typical of Monday holidays,
any historical data for the Sunday pre-holiday trading hours are mishandled
by Investor/RT, disturbing the appearance of the charts for overnight
traded instruments. Two enhancements have been made to deal with these
issues. First, Investor/RT will hence forth treat the Sunday session
preceding a Monday trading holiday as a "holiday date" as well. Thus
when refreshing a chart's historical data after a holiday, such Sunday
data will not be included in the chart. When Monday holidays occur,
charts will end at the session closing time of the preceding Friday, and
resume at 12 a.m. the beginning of the Tuesday following the holiday.
Any trading during Sunday and Monday will not be included in the chart.
This enhancement will clear up much of the chart distortion experienced
heretofore. A second enhancement was made in the form a new checkbox in
Setup: Preferences: General. By default this box, titled "No Holidays
for Overnight Sessions" will be unchecked. If you enable (check) this
option, then Investor/RT will suspend its normal handling of holiday
trading periods and show all trading, current and past that occurred
during the holiday time periods. There will be "white space" for periods
of no trading activity at all, but pre-holiday trading Sunday, and even
post holiday trading late in the day on a Monday holiday will appear in
proper time perspective. This checkbox may be used on the actual trading
holiday date to chart live and historical trading activity pre and post
holiday. Post holiday charting for instruments trading during "day
sessions" are not affected by these enhancements.

Ctrl-Enter
Shortcut for Accessing Preferences
Ctrl-Enter (Option-Return on Macintosh) has been adopted as a
universal shortcut for calling up the preferences for the window at
hand. This new shortcut works for quotepages, portfolios, charts of all
kinds, view-edit windows, time and sales, etc. When a quotepage or
portfolio is the front window and a particular row (symbol) is selected,
the Ctrl-Enter will instead open the setup (the preferences) for the
symbol. When no particular symbol is selected, the preferences for the
quotepage or portfolio will be opened.

Version 8 Fixes,
Miscellaneous Enhancements
-----------------------
The Show/Hide toolbars keyboard shortcut, formerly Alt-H or Apple-H, has
been changed to Ctrl-T (MS Windows) and Option-T (Macintosh). Think "T
for Toggle Toolbar". The Apple-H command is reserved in Macintosh OS X
(to hide the application - minimize the application to the dock). On MS
Window, Alt-H now pulls down the Help menu on the main menu bar.
-----------------------
A bug was fixed in traditional chart windows having to do with the
operation of the "close box" in the title bar of the top pane in the
chart. Clicking the "x" box at the far left of the title bar of any
chart pane has a dual purpose. The first click on the x will remove all
of the indicators from the pane. If the pane has no instruments in it,
the pane closes since it is empty. For panes with indicators and
instruments, the x box is useful for quickly removing all of the
indicators in the pane. The pane remains open showing only the
instrument(s). Clicking the x box in a pane containing one or more
instruments (and no indicators) will close the pane. Of course, if the
instrument to be removed from the chart is the only instrument in the
chart, the entire chart will close. Investor/RT will warn you that you
are about to close the chart if this is the case so you can cancel the
action if you wish. The bug was that a mouse click inside the x box was
not detected for the top pane in the chart. This has now been fixed so
that the x box is functional for every pane in the chart. When you mouse
down inside the x box, the box will highlight; releasing the mouse while
the x box is highlighted will perform the remove indicator/close pane
action, depending upon the pane's content.

DTN Satellite Version of Investor/RT now supports reception of FOREX
currency quotes. DTN Realtime Satellite service offers realtime currency
quotes from Barclays, Tullett, and Hotspot. Forex charts in Investor/RT
track the current bid/ask for the forex instrument tick by tick. Each
quote received generates a "last price tick" at the bid price with a
simulated trade size of 1. Thus a simulated volume for each time
interval bar is available for volume charting. The volume numbers
represent the number of forex quote updates received during the chosen
time interval.

A bug was fixed in the Session Statistics Indicator where the number of
bars in the setup was specified as a user V# variable.

The Split Adjustment window (Control: Data Management: Adjust for
Splits...) has check boxes titled "Adjust Intraday Data Only" and
"Adjust D/W/M Data Only". This feature was added for the benefit of
those using data sources that provide split adjusted data in one case
but not the other. In the past, the split adjustment feature of
Investor/RT would perform adjustments on all pre-split date data of all
periodicities. You can now deal with intra-day data adjustments or
daily/weekly/monthly split adjustments without affecting the other.
-----------------------
The Setup Instruments window shows the override exchange ID when you
edit existing ticker symbols (instruments) if the instrument has an
assigned exchange other than AUTO. The exchange ID is shown just to the
right of the display format for the instruments. The Interactive Brokers
version of Investor/RT does require that the exchange be setup for
futures and options symbols. The Quote.com version of Investor/RT
requires that certain ticker symbols, e.g. Canadian stocks, been
assigned a specific exchange. Since the exchange setup information is
setup in the Advanced section of the Setup Instruments window and this
advanced section is often closed, this display has been added as a
convenience so you can tell that the symbol is assigned to a specific
exchange without having to open the advanced section.

A bug was fixed in the eSignal version of Investor/RT having to do with
retrieving historical data for ticker symbols containing a forward
slash. Certain securities such as preferred stocks have as /P ticker
suffix for example. This problem has been corrected.
-----------------------
When saving a signal (or scan) while a trading system window and its
corresponding backtest setup window are both open, Investor/RT would
issue an XVT fatal error and quit. This has been corrected.
-----------------------
A preferences panel was added for Message Log settings. The panel
provides user control over the log time stamp format and the size of the
message log file. "Clear Log" and "Trim Log" buttons can be used to
empty the message log or trim back its size.
-----------------------
The OBV On Balance Volume indicator accepts a V# variable as the period,
making this indicator available for optimization.
-----------------------
A bug was fixed in the Preset menu that appears in technical indicator
setup windows. The Preset Menu's "Save As..." command was working
improperly. Investor/RT was saving the settings under the wrong preset
name, not the preset name selected from the menu.
