Investor/RT Product Functionality Classes

Investor/RT is available in Standard and Professional editions.  Users of Investor/RT Professional can elect to license advanced trading system development features.  Each of these product configurations are discussed below.   Click for pricing or to place an order online.

Investor/RT Standard

Investor/RT Standard is the foundational Investor/RT product, offering the core charting, technical analysis and market monitoring features of the product line. Featuring more than 20 charting types and styles and 130+ built-in technical indicators.  Investor/RT Standard is an advanced charting system and more. Specialty chart types including Point and Figure, Custom Histogram, Raw Tick, and Three Line Break. The built-in indicator library includes all of the most widely used technical analysis methods, drawing and chart annotation tools, and many specialty indicators. Quotepages, Portfolio Management, Custom Instruments (e.g. pairs, spreads, custom indexes, ratios), News monitoring features are all included.

Investor/RT Professional

Investor/RT Professional provides all of the foundational capabilities of Investor/RT plus the added functionality made possible by the Investor/RT user language, called RTL. Investor/RT Professional offers quotepage scanning, user formulation of custom indicators and trading signals for charting, and quote page customization using RTL based formulas. Many of the built-in indicators of Investor/RT offer extended capabilities in Investor/RT Professional due to the presence of RTL. Some indicators, those that are fully dependent on RTL, will be applicable only to Investor/RT Professional.

Investor/RT Market Profile® Charts

Investor/RT Market Profile® charts are available for $20 per month, and can be added to either the Investor/RT Standard or Investor/RT Professional editions.  Users must sign a CBOT End User Agreement before activating Market Profile® charts.  For more information the Investor/RT Market Profile® charts, click here.

Trading system features can be added to the Investor/RT Professional platform. These extend the product's capabilities to create, test, optimize and deploy sophisticated real-time and end-of-day trading methodologies.

Trading System Development & Backtesting

The Trading System Development feature adds the tools needed to create and backtest trading systems. RTL Trading Signals can be created using Investor/RT Professional. The Trading System Development feature provides the development environment for organizing those trading signals into a set of trading system rules, each rule indicating some action to be performed (buy, sell, cover, etc.) in the context of the trading system. The trading system can then be backtested using historical data of any desired time frame and periodicity. Detailed reports and summary statistics of  trading system performance are produced. Once an effective trading system has been developed the trading signal can then be deployed as indicators in charts to signal buy and sell decision points. Investor/RT Professional with the trading system development and backtesting tools is licensed under the product name Investor/RT Pro Backtester.

Trading System Optimization and Deployment

The Investor/RT Pro Complete product offers a complete software solution for developing, optimizing and deploying technical trading systems in real-time or end-of-day contexts. The trading system optimization and deployment features build on the trading system development feature offered in the Pro Backtester product. A trading system can operate at various periodicities and the indicator setups and variables of the trading system can be manually adjusted to backtest various scenarios. This can be a time consuming task for all but the simplest trading systems. The Trading System Optimization feature takes your trading system and backtests hundreds or thousands of possible combinations of trading system variables and produces insightful reports revealing the optimal combination of periodicities, indicator setups and other variables. Various yardsticks of performance can be used to optimize the trading system to produce superior trading results. Trading systems can be re-optimized as frequently as you like to take recent market activity into account. This gives rise to "adaptive" trading strategies that adapt to current market conditions. Once a trading system is created and verified by backtesting, the Investor/RT Professional user can place individual trading signals into live charts to look for signals triggering in real-time. This works well for reasonably simple trading systems, but  for more complex trading systems with many rules, the trading system deployment feature provides the necessary tool for placing a complete trading system into a live chart.  The chart then shows how the trading system as a whole responds to current market data.  For real-time Investor/RT users this may be thought of as "live testing" or "forward testing" of the trading system in real time.  The trading system deployment feature also provides mechanisms for communicating trading orders to actual or simulated brokerage services .  Learn more...
