Answers to Common Questions

Question

I just updated to version 10.4.7 and my sounds or plug-ins no longer work.  What can I do?

Answer

The update installer for Investor/RT 10.4.7 for Windows uses the Microsoft recommended program files folder on the user machine. Prior to 10.4.7, the installers would default to C:\Program Files\investRT as the install location. For most users there is no change, but for users running 64-bit Windows, the default recommended install location will now be C:\Program Files (x86)\InvestRT instead. Users who have MS Windows localized to a language other than English, will find that the default location is now different, e.g. if XP is configured in German, C:\Programme\investrt\ will be the suggested install location.

For users where the default install location is different than before, if you accept the new default, a new copy of Investor/RT will be installed at the new location. This means that any custom sounds or plugins you have installed must be moved into the sounds or plugins folder of the new install location. Also, if you have made shortcuts to the InvestorRT application (investrt.exe), these shortcuts must be revised or replaced with new ones that reference investrt at the new install location.

Users running Windows XP who install into a new location will find that 10.4.7 starts up with a fresh database instead of their actual database. This can happen if you use a 64-bit XP or if your XP language setting is not English. The easiest solution is to rerun the install and override the recommended install location with C:\Program Files\investrt (or where ever your former install location is). A more permanent solution is the move the C:\Program Files\InvestRT folder into the new default location and then rerun the installer, taking the default on this and all subsequent updates. Again, this applies only to XP.
