Investor/RT Answer
Answers to Common Questions

Question

Does Investor/RT work with multiple monitors?

Answer

Under MS Windows, the Investor/RT "task window" (the overall window containing Investor/RT windows) can be resized and positioned to cover multiple monitors. The task window is initially maximized in the main monitor window. You have to click the "Restore" button in the task window frame...

...to un-maximize the task window, then you can drag the window in the usually way and expand its height and width to cover 2 or more monitors. All Investor/RT windows (charts, quotepages, etc.) can be arranged inside this task window, you may not at present move Investor/RT windows outside of the task window. We recommend Windows XP or Windows 2000, or Macintosh OS X. The Macintosh OS X version of Investor/RT does not have the notion of a task window, so in that context any Investor/RT window can be moved individually to any screen location on any monitor.

On the Windows platform, Investor/RT can be run on multiple display monitors by expanding the Investor/RT "task window" to cover two (or more) screens. One of the problems associated with using multiple monitors is that Investor/RT often centers windows or message prompts. When two monitors are used, for example, centered windows appear half on the left screen and half on the right. To remedy this, the General Preferences window now has a centering percentage option (1 thru 99) that can be used to force centering on either monitor. By default, windows are centered 50% from the left side of the Investor/RT task window. If two monitors are in use, change this preference setting to 25% to cause centering to occur on the left monitor. Use 75% to cause centering on the right monitor. Users with a single monitor can also employ this new setting to skew the centering of messages, alerts, and new windows.

Users with multiple monitors that are logically "stacked vertically" will find a new preference in Setup: Preferences: General. The settings for centering windows have been improved to include a vertical as well as a horizontal percentage. For example in a four monitor setup where Investor/RT uses all four monitors in a 2 by 2 arrangement, use a setting of %25 to center windows vertically on the "top" monitor, or a setting of 75% to center windows vertically on the bottom monitor.
