Question |
Investor/RT is issuing a "Fatal Error" message when I
try to start up the program. What should I do? |

Answer |
First of all, make note of the fatal error location and
error code in the message so you can submit these later to
support@linnsoft.com. Then use
the Investor/RT emergency startup procedure: double-click to launch
Investor/RT and IMMEDIATELY hold down the shift key. Keep the shift key
down until you see the message "Investor/RT is now working offline". The
software detects the shift key at startup as the emergency startup
signal. In response, the software bypasses the opening of charts and
other windows, and will not initiate a connection to your data service
until you say so. If startup is successful, issue the Verify Database
command from the Control->Database Utilities menu. If database errors
are reported, issue the Database Maintenance command from the same menu.
If database errors persist, issue the Restore Database command to
restore the database to the most recent backup. For more information on
dealing with database errors see
http://www.linnsoft.com/qa/a/15.htm
If your database is okay, begin opening charts and other windows
selectively to see if you can pin point which one causes the fatal
error. If another fatal error results, startup again using the emergency
startup procedure and delete the offending chart using the Control:
Delete/Rename window.
Once your windows are open, use the Start Data command in the Data
Service menu to connect to your data service. If a fatal error occurs
after connecting, report the error code and error location to
support@linnsoft.com . Please
include your user profile with the email. Either attach the file
UserProfile.txt or use the Copy User Profile command in the Investor/RT
Edit Menu to obtain the profile text for pasting into your email
message. The UserProfile.txt file can be found in the admin
directory/folder inside the Investor/RT startup directory/folder. |
