Question |
I just contacted myTrack to ask about their ticker
symbols for indexes. They said I had to connect Linn Software for the
correct symbols. What should I do? |

Answer |
First of all, Investor/RT uses the very same ticker
symbols as the myTrack-supplied standard software for MS Windows. No
exceptions. Ticker symbols for equities are pretty universal across all
data vendors, but for futures and indexes, the symbol format varies from
vendor to vendor. In the case of the myTrack data service here are some
ways find an obscure ticker symbol.
1. Choose "Ticker Symbol Help" from the IRT Help Menu and read the
section on myTrack. This help topic also refers you to a Symbol setup
web page at the Linn Software web site that shows tickers for widely
followed futures and indices: http://www.linnsoft.com/symbols.
2. Use the "Market Pulse" command in the myTrack Menu to see lists of
ticker symbols for common market statistics and indices.
3. Use the symbol lookup command in the myTrack menu in Investor/RT.
Enter a key word such as "Pharmaceutical" and myTrack will respond with
all ticker symbols whose name contains that word.
4. Use the myTrack Chat command in the myTrack Menu in Investor/RT to
chat online directly to helpful myTrack host personnel who can provide
assistance with tickers. When using myTrack chat, do not ask for
assistance in any aspect of using Investor/RT. Simply ask data vendor
specific questions such as "What is the ticker for a Pharmaceutical
Index.". In our experience, the myTrack host reps are very helpful as
long as you do not ask them for help with Investor/RT specific usage
questions. They cannot and will not support non-myTrack software usage,
but asking for a ticker symbol is certainly within bounds.
5. Join the Linn Software discussion list and pose the question there if
you still cannot find the ticker. Someone else using your particular
data service may know the ticker and answer quickly. It's a helpful
group. |
