Data Feed Hearbeat Indicator

The button at the right end of the Investor/RT Main Toolbar is called the Data Feed Heartbeat Indicator . This button changes appearance every second when Investor/RT is connected to the data feed. The purpose of the animation is to give the user a visual indication that market data is flowing into the program. If the button is changing, data is flowing properly. The Data Feed Heartbeat indicator is not applicable to the end-of-day Dial/Data Edition of Investor/RT. 

When the data feed is inactive, the button image is a red X. To activate the data feed, click the Start Feed button in the Main toolbar or issue the "Start Data" command in the data feed menu. 

The button image is solid red with a question mark when no data has been received from the data feed source during the past 60 seconds. Investor/RT can be setup to automatically reconnect to the data feed in such cases. See Setup: Preferences: Data Feed or choose Setup from the data feed menu.
