DTN datafeed setup for Investor/RT

Investor/RT supports DTN models D7001 and D8000 real-time data feeds for all security types.

  1. Select Setup>Preferences>DTN Setup or choose Setup from the DTN menu.
  2. Indicate which Serial port is to be used to communicate with the DTN receiver.
  3. Check "Activate Data Feed at Startup."
  4. Select a connection speed. 57600 is recommended for Macintosh users, 115200 for Windows.
  5. Specify the DTN model, D8000 or D7001 series
  6. Choose DTN>Start Data Feed.     {Alt,Apple}+G or click the Start Feed button on the Main toolbar

Make sure the your Investor/RT registration correctly specifies the terminal id (tid) of the DTN unit you are using. The tid for a DTN unit may be found on DTN statistics page 1 on the DTN Model D7000 series monitor, or on the LCD display on the front panel of the D8000 receiver, e.g FC00-0123. When entering the tid, do not type in the hyphen

DTN Setup Preferences includes a "Maintenance" feature to specify how often and at what time of day to perform maintenance. Performing maintenance every 15 days is recommended. The time of day should be a 24-hour time during which the markets you follow are closed. The maintenance consists of removing certain DTN related files from the hard drive and loading fresh copies of theses files from the DTN receiver unit. The maintenance takes place in the background while you work with Investor/RT. Do not perform maintenance or schedule maintenance during active market hours since Investor/RT's capacity to receive quotes is limited until the maintenance activity is completed. Normally this takes 15-30 minutes.

The "Database Mode" checkbox is provided for users with the model D8000 DTN receiver. When checked, Investor/RT constructs a watch list of all issues tracked by the user and requests that the DTN D8000 transmit quotes and trades only on those instruments. This mode of operation reduces the data traffic on the serial port considerably. Certain Investor/RT features such as the Quote Sifter lose their ability to watch the unfiltered raw data feed when database mode is in effect. This mode of operation is not recommended when more than 500 instruments are tracked. For those tracking a limited number of symbols, this setting enables Investor/RT (and other applications) to run faster.
