Linn Software, Inc. was founded in 1989 by Dr. William E. Linn. The firm was incorporated in 1993. The company's first software products were developed for Apple Macintosh computers and received a wide following. In 1994, the company embarked on a major development effort to redesign its charting and market analysis software as a cross-platform product for both Windows and Macintosh. Designed to meet the needs of sophisticated traders and active investors, Investor/RT® was introduced in 1996.
Investor/RT has undergone continuous enhancement and refinement for more than two decades, adapting to user requirements and major technology changes over that period. Investor/RT is a comprehensive market data analysis platform with advanced market profiling, FootPrint Charting, volume and order flow analysis capabilities. In recent years, the company has introduced its RTX technology, a modern suite of productive software development tools that empower end-users, consultants, in-house developers and third-party software developers to extend the Investor/RT platform with custom market data displays, indicators, trading signals and trading automation capabilities. Since 2014, all new technical analysis and other advanced charting extensions are now developed in-house using RTX development tools.
In 2006, Linn Software developed advanced order flow presentation software depicting detailed bid and ask volume occuring at each price superimposed on classic candlestick and bar charts. This innovative charting style was introduced that year as FootPrint Charts, under license from Linn Software, and was popularized under the MarketDelta Charts brandname. Best in class FootPrint charting was reintroduced into the Investor/RT flagship product in 2017 using RTX. This charting extension, known as VolumeScope encapsulates all of the original Footprint features while adding a much improved user interface and even more advanced features. Today Investor/RT is a 64-bit integrated charting/market analysis/trade execution solution used world-wide, featuring connectivity to market data and execution services via IQFeed, Rithmic, CQG, Gain Futures, and Interactive Brokers.
