The bands indicator associated with the “stepped blocks” style is the most useful indicator for your request.

You need first to create 2 custom indicators returning for each bar the Low and High price of the Value Area. This can be done using the VPS token or the corresponding PROF token.
By checking (or not) the “Extend Full band until Filled” box, you can either “reduce” the height of the naked band (if it gets partially filled), or wait to have the full band filled (before stopping at once the extended display)
I have added a button to show/hide profile indicators to display naked VPOC/VAL and VAH lines on top of the bands.

Please note you may “filter” which value area will be extended by including a Signal based filter in the Custom indicator definition for the top and bottom bands.
For example, I have included a filter to display and extend VA only when their minimum height is equal to C#1 ticks or more (C#1=0 by default, ie all bands are being displayed)

Final comments:
thanks to the chart style Button, you may switch quickly to a VolumeProfile style instead of candles. Please also note the button for controlling the candle width (with a 40:20 pixel/bar type of chart settings) as a thinner candle makes the Value Area zone (behind the candle) easier to spot...
