Alarms visible on charts

Hello,

I am a big fan of InvestorRT for it's numerous highly advanced features. Yet there are a few very basic things which make life a bit too difficult. For example the "Alarm function". I do have the option to set an alarm with the mouse. Unfortunately no reference line is being printed. I cannot possibly remember all alerts I have set in multiple markets on different locations. Sometimes I would also like to eliminate an old alert. I know there is the possibility of looking up alarms in a quotepage, but firstly they do not all appear in there and secondly.....it's way too complicated. In most charting packages it is quite normal to see alert levels in the chart and to be able to move them.
Please do consider this issue in the future development on the programm.

regards
Andreas

High and Low Alarm Reference Lines

If you add a reference line to your chart, and attach it to High Alarm Value as seen below, it will not only show you where your high alarm is, you can drag that line around and it will adjust the high alarm value for you.  Repeat for Low Alarm value (different color - maybe read)

I would also recommend you maintain a quotepage so you can see at a glance where every symbol's high and low alarms are set to (and you can also adjust directly in the quotepage).  Add the columns LoAlarm and HiAlarm to the quotpeage.  You may also want to add HiAlarmStep and LoAlarmStep if you are using the steps.

This video is a bit dated but may still give you some ideas > https://www.linnsoft.com/videos/alarms-automating-alerts-new-high-and-low

Hi Chad,

Hi Chad,

thanks for your reply.
I did find a solution that is quite similar for regular Alerts.
If instead I want to be alerted every time price hits the VAH or VAL of a daily profile, do I need to link a reference-line alert to a "V#" variable? would that alert dynamically change with the changing values of the VAH/VAL throughout the day?
If so, would you mind to show me an example in a definition?
I t seems to be quite complicated. Do I need to assign different variables to every market?.....

VAH/VAL Alerts

Andreas,

How many symbols are you wanting these VAH/VAL alerts on?  1?  5?  500?  The answer to that will probably dictate the solution.  Best way is probably to use either a custom column or a scan that sets the VAH/VAL into 2 V#s.  Are you interested in the developing VAH/VAL or the previous session VAH/VAL?  Day session or full session?  Futures or equities?  I'll give you more guidance once you respond.

VAH/VAL Alerts

Chad,

thanks a lot for your response and help. With a colleague of mine we've come up with the following attempt. I don't want to call it a solution yet, because we'll only find out on monday when the markets open whether it really works or not. We are monitoring between 10 to 15 futures markets and it's developing VAH/VAL. (full session)
I have attached a few pictures to illustrate what we've come up with using the EUR Future as an example.
First we assigned specific variables to store for each individual market and saved their profiles with an individual name.(every variable was saved with an individual name in "File/Preferences/UserVariables"). We've then created buttons to bring up that specific profile when needed. The following step was to create two reference-lines with an alarm using the variable that was assigned to either VAH or VAL (See settings on the picture) hoping to have choosen the right settings to alert only once every bar(30min,.....and then created buttons for each of them). Since the lines "jumped" to the correct value after putting in all the settings I'm hoping it will work with moving markets. The only part I have not been able to figure out is why the message text will not store correctly. After having set up another symbol it always shows the last text used in that market symbol.
Please let me know what you think of this "solution" and whether there is a better way.

Andreas

Hello,

Hello,
i i may jump quickly inside the discussion, i just wanted to highlight an alternative approach (if you are a bit familiar with custom indicators.)
Indeed, you can access the developing VAH/VAL data through the PROF token and therefore built simple custom indicator that will display/trigger signal marker whenever a developing VAH/VAL is hit
On my side, In most of the situation, I prefer this approach (using custom indicator) for 2 basic reasons
1) you may create alert / signal much more complex than just VAL/VAH is hit (ie you could create an alert whenever the price is bouncing off the VAL and there was a delta divergence, or whatever market conditions you prefer)
2) you keep a better visual track of all the alerts on the chart through the display of signal marker
and you can still also trigger (like with the ref line) whatever signal action (opening a new chart, etc..) whenever the signal is hit
Cheers
