Question pertaining to upgrading Instances when using Beta version.

Ive been using the beta version for a while now and was wondering if there was another way to update all my other instances without having to move the entire folder again upon upgrading my Main instance to the new version?

Upgrading a single I/RT instance (in a multiple instances setup)

Hi Dean,

Whenever you have installed multiple instances of I/RT as per the procedure explained here,

each instance becomes "independent". This creation process (involving a directory "copy") should be done only once. To install a new version on a given instance, when you run an installer (see screenshot below), you just need to select as "destination" the instance you want to upgrade.

By default, Investor/RT installer will select as destination folder C > Program Files > Linnsoft > InvestorRT

To pick another instance, just click on the "browse" button and select, for example, C > IRT_03 to upgrade that particular instance (see screenshot below)

I hope this clarifies the process of upgrading a single instance (when you already have several installed)

Note: for the record, here is the typical generic process for anyone willing to test a beta version (while keeping a production version as the main version).

Let's consider a subscriber running the current 15.1 production version, and having only one instance on his PC having been setup on the default installation locations (i.e. both  the C > Program Files > Linnsoft > InvestorRT directory, with C>Users>your-user-name>InvestorRT hosting its main data)

  • First step: as per the instructions shared in the link above, create a second instance of Investor/RT (on C> IRT_01 for example). This second instance will be a perfect clone of the current instance.
  • Second step: run the beta installer and upgrade the newly created instance by selecting as "destination" C> IRT_01. The original instance will be fully unchanged (and still operate the 15.1 version)
