License Activation and Subscription Management

License Codes defined

A license code is an 18-digit number that you enter into the License Activation window in Investor/RT (File > License...). The number remains in effect as long as you continue as a subscriber. The license code tells Investor/RT which product and features you have licensed at any point in time.

Retrieve your License Code

Login to the Linn Software web site using your email address and password. If you do not know your password, request a new one. Once logged in, your Licenses, Subscription, and Billing information are all readily available for viewing.

Activate your License

Go to File > License and paste the License Code from your Linn Software account web page into the space provided. Click the Activate License button. Agree to the License Agreement and go through the remaining steps clicking Next. Review the resulting license status in the window and click "Finish". You should see green text that reads: Status: Activated (...) in good standing. In parentheses after the word Activated you will see codes indicating the product/features you have licensed. For example, an Investor/RT TPO Profile user will see Activated (TPO) or Activated (TPO PRO).

Revise your License

Go to the Linn Software website and login. Then go to the Subscriptions Tab and press the button to Manage Subscription. Then add or remove features from that page. After you've' selected your new subscription level, scroll to the bottom and enter your credit card information to authenticate yourself and press Submit Changes.

After revising your license, new features will automatically be available to your license within 15 minutes or you can deactivate and then reactivate your license to gain access to the new features immediately.

Move the License to a different Computer

A license code may be activated on only one machine at a time. If you wish to run Investor/RT software on more than one computer at different times, go to the License Activation window and click De-Activate License to release the license from the machine. Then use the same License Code to activate on a different computer. If you move your license frequently from one machine to another, consider adding an additional license to your account.

Add an Additional License

Go to the Linn Software website and login.

  1. Go to the Subscriptions Tab and press the button to Manage Subscription.
  2. Change your subscription by adding an additional license.
  3. Scroll to the bottom and enter your credit card information to authenticate yourself and press Submit Changes.
If you have more than one license and wish to use version 13.5 or higher, you will need to upgrade both licenses for the new licensing system to work properly.

Automatically Deactivate License at Quit

Go to File > Preferences > Configuration and search for the Configuration Variable called ReleaseLicenseAtQuit. Set this to True. Also search for CheckLicenseAtStartup and set that to true.

Run Multiple Program Instances with One License

Multiple instances are not supported for Macintosh users except under Virtual Machine software such as Parallels Desktop or VMWare Fusion.

Running on a Server

You can run Investor/RT on a Server as long as you are the only user.

Access via Remote Desktop Connection

You can run Investor/RT via a Remote Desktop Connection.

End your Subscription

To end your subscription, log in to the site and click on the Subscriptions tab to view your subscription details. Click the green "Manage Subscription" button. On the next screen, click the "End This Subscription" button in the top right corner and complete the cancellation form. Once you submit the form, you will receive a confirmation email. Your license will remain active until the last day of your current billing cycle and your subscription and billing will terminate on that date.

Cancellation requests must be received no later than 48 hours prior to your next billing date in order be processed before the next billing occurs. You can view your next billing date (and current billing cycle) in the Subscriptions tab in your account. Because cancellation requests take effect at the end of the current billing cycle, it is not necessary to wait until the last minute if you wish to cancel further billing. You can then simply subscribe again after the pause.

License is automatically De-activating

How does Investor/RT Licensing work?

Investor/RT creates a digital signature using certain characteristics of your computers' hardware to identify your machine. Periodically while you use the program, Investor/RT will communicate with our license server to confirm that the signature is the same, and that your license is in good standing. Since each license is for use on only one machine at a time, if something changes about your machine signature, you will get a message to De-Activate the license because it appears to Investor/RT that you are trying to access the license from another machine. When you click the De-Activate License button on that message window, you will see a web browser window open offering a button to De-Activate the license. If you are not logged into the website, you will be asked to login first and then redirected to the correct page to De-Activate.

Virus Protection interfering

If you are getting notified to De-Activate the license too often and you believe nothing should be changing about the machine's digital signature, it may be that your Virus Protection program is blocking Investor/RT from reaching the License server. We suggest adding the following two exceptions to any Virus Protection program you are running so that the program does not interfere with Investor/RT's ability to check in with our License server:

  • Create an exception to exclude this directory from Scans: C:/Users/YourUserName/InvestorRT
  • Create an exception for a program to whitelist the Investor/RT program at: C:/Program Files(x86)/InvestRT/InvestRT.exe

Once you've created these two exceptions, restart your machine for good measure.

Releasing license on each use

Some users have reported that releasing the license after each use has improved their licensing experience. To do this, go to File > Preferences > Configuration and search for the Configuration Variable called ReleaseLicenseAtQuit. Set this to True. Also search for CheckLicenseAtStartup and set that to true. Then restart Investor/RT for good measure.
