There are 2 types of keyboard shortcuts available within Investor/RT: custom function keys (programmed by the user) and I/RT native/predefined shortcuts
Function keys programmed as Custom keyboard shortcuts
You can create your own shortcut key for a very wide range of actions, including any of the Traditional Chart Toolbar functions (or any other toolbar for that matter).
Simply go to File > Preferences > Keyboard Shortcuts. First, specify the shortcut key combination you would like to assign at top, for instance, Shift-F2. Now, for the Action, select "Toolbar" and then "Chart", and then select the toolbar function you would like to assign to your shortcut key. Select Apply. You can also set shortcut keys for adjusting the periodicity of the chart by choosing "Periodicity" in the Action.
Here is an example of setting up a function key to open any specific I/RT objects (charts, quotepage, etc) using the Run schedule feature.
Native Investor/RT keyboard shortcuts
If you like speeding up repetitive mouse actions (to open a menu, change a chart or indicator settings, etc.) and prefer keyboard shortcuts, Investor/RT includes a long list of (optional) pre-programmed keyboard shortcuts. The most commonly used ones are listed below, knowing that each technical indicator support page also reviews each specific shortcut (that is available for that indicator)
The use of all these shortcuts remains optional. Some of them can even be permanently deactivated if you don't want to trigger them by inadvertence:
- To disable the numeric keystrokes features (which induces the update of the periodicity window for the frontmost multi-pane chart), set the configuration variable ChartPeriodChangeOnNumKey to false.
- To disable the ticker symbol change request feature (Lowercase letters typed into a chart are processed as uppercase and are handled as a ticker symbol change request), set the configuration variable ChartSymbolChangeOnAlphaKey to false.
Please note that, in almost every case, an alternative to the use of a keyboard shortcut (either a custom key or a native shortcut) is to add a dedicated Chart button, especially as the purposes of such chart button include "Execute a toolbar button" and execute a custom "Shortcut Key"
