Sending Signal Alerts via Email

Alerts can be sent to email. If your cell phone is linked to an email address, then alerts may also be sent to cell phones. Below are instructions on how to send alerts to email.

Follow these steps:

  1. Setup and test your outgoing Mail at Setup→Preferences→E-Mail.
  2. Go to Setup→Preferences→Alarms. Check the "Email Alert To:" checkbox and provide the email address to which you would like the Alerts sent. You can check other options if you like, but keep in mind these will all get triggered when your alert goes off. "Email Alert" may be the only option you want selected.
  3. Add a Signal Marker to your chart. If you're unfamiliar with this process, watch this video.
  4. Double-click on the Signal Marker in chart to bring up it's preferences. Click the "Signal Action" checkbox and click the "New" button to the right. Give it a name like "EmailAlert" and click "OK".
  5. Within the Action preferences, check the "Alarm Text" checkbox and enter some text that you'd like sent with the alert. You can include tokens like %TICKER and %LAST to include the ticker symbol and last price at time of signal within the message. You can check other alert options in this window if you wish, but the Alarm Text checkbox is the one we're interested in for our purposes.
  6. Click OK at bottom of the Action preferences window and make sure your new action is the one selected in the Signal Marker window.
