BarNumbers (RTX)

The BarNumbers RTX displays a label for a given bar or set of bars that identifies that bar's sequence from the beginning of its session.  Bars are numbered chronologically from the beginning of each session so that the first bar of any session is bar #1.  This RTX is useful for easily identifying specific bars in a non-time dependent manner, such as for use with trading rooms, collaborations, or mentoring.

Likewise, it can disclose at a glance how much activity has occurred in any given session in terms of its bar production, which again can be useful for non-time related bars such as range, change, or Renko bars.

This RTX offers a rich set of features to allow the user to customize exactly where, when, and how bar number labels are displayed.  For example, the user can customize:

  • The shape of the bar number label, its background color (which can be different for up and down bars), and the color, font, size, and style of the label text
  • Where the label is displayed relative to the bar it describes
  • How the label can avoid overlapping previous labels
  • Which bar from the beginning of the session the label should start displaying
  • Which bars the label should be displayed, such as all bars, even numbered bars, odd numbered bars, every N bars, or just the bar the mouse cursor is hovering over
  • How the bar index into the session is displayed - as a number, using spreadsheet-style uppercase letters, or by using a combination of mixed case lettters such as are used in Investor/RT's market profile TPO chart intervals.

Bar Numbers RTX

  • Label Font: customizes the font, size, and style of the label text
  • Label Color: selects the color of the label text and border
  • Label Background Shape: selects the shape of the label background and border, if they are drawn.
  • Transparent: if selected, does not draw the label background
  • Draw Border: if not selected, does not draw the label border
  • Extra Space Around Label: sets the amount of space (in pixels) between the label text and the label border
  • Label Background Color: sets the background colors (if drawn) for up (bullish) bars and down (bearish) bars
  • Label Position: selects the drawing position of the label relative to the bar it describes.  Choices are
    • Above bar: draw label above the bar it describes
    • Below bar: draw label below the bar
    • Above bar except to avoid overlap: draw label above the bar unless it would overlap a label drawn for a previous bar, in which case it will draw the label below the bar
    • Below bar except to avoid overlap: draw label below the bar unless it would overlap a label drawn for a previous bar, in which case it will draw the label above the bar
  • Don't Draw Labels That Would Overlap Others: if selected, labels that would overlap a label drawn for a previous bar will not be drawn
  • Label Offset Distance From Bar: distance (in pixels) above or below the bar that a label will be drawn
  • Label Style: describes how the contents of the label are to be drawn
    • Numbers: chronologically ordered numbers starting with 1.  Example: 1, 2, 3, 4...99
    • Letters (Upper Case): alphabetically ordered upper-case letters (spreadsheet style) starting with A.  Example: A, B, C...Z, AA, AB, AC...ZZ, AAA
    • Letters (Mixed Case): alphabetically ordered mixed case letters starting with uppercase A, similar to Investor/RT's market profile TPO chart intervals.  Example: A, B, C, Z, a, b, c...z, AA, AB...ZZ, Aa...Az, Ba...zz, AAA
  • Start Bar (In Session): the first bar in each session (starting with 1) that the bar number label will be drawn.
  • Draw Label On: describes on which bars the bar number labels will be drawn
    • All Bars: draw labels on all bars (with deference to the overlap settings above)
    • Even Bars: draw labels on all even-numbered bars (note: bar #1 label is always drawn)
    • Odd Bars: draw labels on all odd-numbered bars
    • Mouse Hover Bars: draw label only on bar that the mouse cursor is currently hovering over horizonally (note - the distance from that the label is displayed from the mouse cursor crosshair is determined by the "Label offset from bar" setting)
    • Every N Bars: draws labels only on multiples of the number in the "N" setting.  If "N" setting contains 5, labels would be drawn on bars 5, 10, 15, 20, 25, etc.
    • Every N Bars And Mouse Hover Bars: draws labels only on multiples of the number in the "N" setting, and also draws labels for the bar that the mouse is hovering over horizontally
    • No bars: draws no bar number labels
  • Required Special Keys: only available when a mouse hover choice is selected in the "Draw label on" setting.  Requires a special key to be held down in order for a label to be drawn for the bar that the mouse is hovering over horizontally.  Choices are None, Shift Key, Ctrl Key, and Shift+Ctrl Keys
